Summer Term School Report 2007

1A is the best and 3C is satisfactory.

Subject / Class Grade / Teacher’s Comment
English / 2B / Robert is an intelligent young man. He is an independent student and can be mature when required. It would be nice to see a bit more initiative from Robert as in the coming years he will need to push himself rather than wait to be pushed. I would also like to see Robert work on his interpersonal skills as sometimes he has not worked as well in group situations as I would like. We have focused on skills work during our English lessons and Robert has shown a good range of abilities. He was also a star performer in this year's drama production. If Robert makes the effort to show a bit more enthusiasm for his studies I have no doubt he will go on to achieve success in the future.

Mathematics / 3A / This term in mathematics we have been working on past GCSE Intermediate examination papers so as to gain experience of doing GCSE style examinations. Robert is an excellent mathematician but he is very undisciplined in thought and presentation and so does not get good marks and does not do well on long structured questions which require a formal approach. Somehow he needs to be persuaded that order and precision have great value.
J.S.Nixon.
Sports Report / 2A / Robert is a very highly valued member of the school's sporting community and has represented the school as part of the football team. He is always enthusiastic, is a good team player, and sets an example for others to follow.
M.R.Jarvis.
ICT / 3C / Robert continued to seem convinced that he was on top of the work when he was actually often just marking time. He regularly missed important bits from worksheets, announcing that he 'was finished'- and yet there were clearly things still undone. He has a safe base of good skills, but seemed unadventurous in pushing them much further. I suspect he needs to find things HE considers worthwhile, and that he will then push himself harder.
J.Farmer.
Art / 2B / Robert has worked hard this term and now produces work demonstrating that he has talent and a creative imaginative approach to Art.
L.S. Merton.
Geography / 1A / This term we finished studying Natural Environments and did River Landforms and Processes. Robert was very active in lessons, competing with others to answer questions. He was a little careless with his homework however and needs to take more pride in the presentation of his work. He got a grade A+ in the end of year exam with 87.5%. I wish him success for the future.
H.Oakfield.
Study Skills / 2A / The class have been working on practical skills which will assist their work in all other subject areas. Robert has shown that he is a capable student but he has not always pushed himself to do the best he can. However, he scored 76% in the end of year examination, which showed that he can use the skills we have worked on.
A.Vernon.
PSHE / 3 / This term in PSHE we have considered various topics relating to our health. We have looked at the effects of nicotine, alcohol and drugs on the body, and we have discussed the cultural and social implications of these drugs. Robert will participate when asked to, but it would have been good to have seen him volunteer his opinions a little more.
H.Lake.
Violin / Robert has worked well during his violin lessons this term. There are some gaps in his theory knowledge which we are addressing as they arise. Passing his grade 5 theory examination is a priority so that he can work towards grade 7.
D. Stringer.
Science / 1C / We have finished the taught component of the Science course this term. Last term we completed the practical investigation which counts 20% of the final mark and students have now sat exams which count for the remaining 80% of their grade. After discussion, Robert has been entered at the Foundation level of the course, which means that he will not be able to score more than a grade C for the subject - this level of entry was decided on as Robert felt more confident with the simpler language of the question papers - although I feel that he would have had few problems in coping with the more complex language of the higher tier. Robert has had an excellent year; his effort in class has been consistently high, and he has made noticeable progress in his scientific and language skills. Because of his hard work I am confident he will earn a grade C in this subject. Robert has been a pleasure to teach and I am sure he will continue to go from strength to strength in the future.

Year Head's Comments.

This is a good report on the whole. Robert has made good progress over the year, both academically and socially. There is clearly a common theme running throughout this report indicating that Robert really does need to be prepared to push himself harder. However, Robert is a bright and charming young man, and I am sure he will achieve close to his potential in the end.
