Event Description: “Victory Over Violence Forum”
This event is to encourage people to take the initiative to stop the violence in Birmingham, Alabama by starting with themselves. Our city is ranked 10th in the nation for high crime ratings. One of the most dangerous zip codes in the nation, 35211, is in our city. Of 272 cities with populations of 100,000 or more, Birmingham in 2009 ranked ninth in the nation for murders per 100,000 people. In 2008 Birmingham was fifth. This event is to emphasize that everybody can play a part in decreasing the crime in our city BY MAKING SURE THEY ARE NOT THE ONES WHO ARE COMMITTING THE CRIME.
It is my goal to have a wide range of view points on the panel for the forum. There will be a judge who administers the law for crime. There will be a parent who has lost a child to crime. There will be a person who has lived a life of crime and turned their life around. I will be the in between person as a pastor who grew up in a great home but was confused as to whether or not I wanted to be a scholar or live the street life. I now stand in court with church members on occasion who are fighting to stay out of prison for bad decisions of the past. We are believing God for every child and parent in attendance to make a decision to stop crime by starting with themselves.
