WORK EXPERIENCE:

· From September 2005, School of Translation and Interpreting, Sun Yat-sen University, Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, China.

I am the Lecturer of Consecutive Interpreting of Yr 3 and Listening & Speaking to Year 2 students. Also the Course Leader of Listening & Speaking. Present contract ends August 2009. Future contract offers teaching Master Degree Interpreting courses and NAATI Exam courses.

· October – December 2001 & September – November 2002, Auckland University of Technology (AUT)

16 weeks contract interpreter for Nanjing Municipal Delegation project coming to AUT for training on China entering World Trade Organization – International Business and Management. Subjects including international economy, marketing, strategic planning and management, agribusiness, E-commerce, Organizational culture, financial planning and management, accounting, etc. It is a long-term project. I am recognized as a quality interpreter by AUT, and will be contracted each year for this project.

· 2nd March 2001 – 31st August 2001, Cultural Economic Corporation (NZ) Ltd

As the interpreter/translator and PA to the Managing Director, I was responsible for all the communications between the MD and the clients. I translated all the incoming and outgoing documents, and was interpreting for the Maori Queen and various Members of Parliament, including the Minister of Maori Affairs and Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Dover Samuels. The investor stopped funding the Company due to the lack of business and income.

· July 2000 – 2004, South Auckland Health Board, Auckland District Health Board & Waitamata District Health Board

As the first interpreting experience in New Zealand, I was a health interpreter for the above organizations. The job requires high level of both English and Chinese languages, good knowledge of medical terminology, strict disciplines and strong sense of responsibility.

· 1996 – 1999, Imex International Limited, U.K.

I was a Director of this small limited company importing cast iron fireplaces and goods including granite, hand made tiles and giftware from China. These goods were sold in U.K and also exported to Southern Ireland. I was responsible for translating manufacturing specification to documents and interpreting at all business meetings and the setting up of contacts for various products and locating supplies from China. It involved the total responsibility for the China side of the company operation.

· 1992 –1996, Magpie Trading & Consultancy Co., London, U.K.

It is professional consulting company specializing in business with China. Involved in several successful projects, e.g. we were the first sole agent to introduce Newcastle Brown Ale to China; located a Chinese distillery to produce Scotch whisky from June 1994 (Inver House Distillers, Scotland); and connected Potterton Myson with a Chinese electronics company to produce domestic boilers, the contract was signed in Jan. 1996. I was responsible for the translation of all the documents involved, interpreting at all the business meetings, visits to China and Hong Kong, and delegations to England.

· 1987 – 1991, Guohua International Engineering Contracting Inc.

China International Trust & Investment Corporation (CITIC)

Responsible for all the translation and interpreting duties of all the technical documents and seminars, plus import & export documents, e.g. contracts (both technical and commercial), Letter of Credit, Shipping documents, Power of Attorney, etc.; interpreting at various technical and commercial negotiations, involved in several joint venture projects like U.S. invested aluminum window project, Korea invested optical fibre glass project, etc.

· 1985 – 1987, Department of Capital Construction, Ministry of Railways, China

Responsible for all the communications with Europe and North America on the import of technology and equipment for Chinese railway construction projects and translation of all the documents involved, e.g. Technical specifications, International Standards, etc.; interpreting at all the technical symposia and commercial negotiations; interpreting for the Chinese delegations visiting European countries, and visiting consultants from Europe and North America.

OTHER EXPERIENCES:

· Simultaneous interpreting for Corporate Social Responsibility Conference in Shenzhen and other important meetings since September 2005. I was interpreting for the Prime Minister of Finland when he visited Sun Yat-Sen University in 2005.

· Teaching BEC (Cambridge Business English) at a Macao enterprise in Zhongshan since December 2005 to their marketing managers and their assistants.

· Interpreting for New Zealand Government high level officials, including New Zealand Prime Minister, Helen Clarke, the former New Zealand Prime Minister, Jenny Shipley; Minister of Immigration, Lianne Dalziel; Minister of Maori Affairs, Parekura Horomia, MP Dover Samuels, the Maori Queen, and ACT Party Leader, Richard Prebble, etc.

· From February 2001, I have been a contract interpreter and translator for the Translation Service of the Department of Internal Affairs of New Zealand, Pacific International Translations (NZ) Ltd (the largest translation company in NZ), and Wellington Community Interpreting Service. I also work independently as a professional translator and interpreter.

· For promoting Chinese Shaolin martial arts in Europe for the first time, I was twice employed by Harvey Goldsmith Entertainment in London, as their interpreter and appeared in various TV, radio programs and newspapers aired and reported in the U.K and Europe. We were on ‘ This Morning’ with Richard and Judy on ITV (live show), ‘Big City’ on Carlton Television, ‘London Tonight’, BBC Radio 5, and much more, before their performances in Wembly Arena and London Arena on 8th, 9th November 1995.

· From July to November 2002, I was a Language Lab Tutor for Certificate in Liaison Interpreting course, at School of Languages, Auckland University of Technology

INTEREST AND HOBBIES

I love music, classic and pop, instrumental and vocal. Singing is my best hobby, also social and Latin dancing. I like to meet people and make friends and enjoy outings, sightseeing and general travel. If I have time, I would like to pick up my French again.
