NC Wise on Newer Windows Systems

Some of you are having trouble with NC Wise on newer computers. I’ll grant you that NC Wise is particular with regard to cooperating platforms (Version of Web Browser, Adobe, etc).

DOT informs me that there is a fix in the works. It involves a patch. Detailed instructions are forth coming. I’m told that these patches will work with Vista, Windows7, and even Macs. Give this process time.

For the more adventuresome out there, you may try this fix that entails using IE8 (Currently we must have IE7 at school to have NC Wise work.)

Getting eSIS to work with IE8

Found this fix on the web while trying to get eSIS to work with ie8
I also have eSIS working on Firefox 3.0.7 but haven't duplicated the success yet...I know it's a plugin issue.

I have been reasearching this problem for the last month, and nailed the problem down to the "jvm.dll" file in C:\Program Files\Oracle\Jinitiator\bin\hotspot

You have to replace the "jvm.dll" file with the one found here:

http://sathyabh.at/2009/06/27/fixing-internet-explorer-crash-on-launching-oracle-forms-application-with-jinitiator/

Instructions are also on that page.

You can also download this file from here -->>jvm.dll

It has worked for everyone I have tried it on so far. I'm running it now on FF 3.5.5 with JRE 6 update 15. So its not a Mozilla (or any other browser) problem, nor an NC WISE problem. It's an Oracle-Java problem.

You can also download the file from the esis site (esis.k12.hi.us). It has the jvm.dll file for IE6/7/8. They also have one for IE7 under Vista. There's no mention of Win7, but I recently got it working on Win7 (64 bit version too) by downloading the IE8 on XP version (follow the instructions below for where to copy the file to, except instead of going to Program Files, it's Program Files (x86) for the 64 bit version of Windows). I'm guessing this version should also work with IE8 under Vista too. It doesn't work on FF on Win7 though, at least not 3.6.

Getting eSIS to work on Firefox 3.5.2
contributed by Bob Martin

If you are interested in a workaround for ESIS application with Firefox 3.5.2, I got mine working by

1. Downloading and installing JRE 5.0_13 from http://java.sun.com/products/archive/j2 ... index.html

2. Replacing C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator x.x.x.xx\bin\hotspot\jvm.dll
with the following C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_13\bin\client\jvm.dll

3. Restarting Firefox ...

If you have multiple instances of JInitiator (1.3.1.28, 1.3.1.30, etc ...) just make sure to copy the jvm.dll file into each of the locations (C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.28\bin\hotspot\ and C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.30\bin\hotspot\

Of course, I don't have many add-ons enabled in Firefox and YMMV (your mileage may vary)
