Mrs. V’s Classroom Procedures
How to enter class:
· Quietly find your journal
· Sit down in your desk
· Sharpen pencil and get out notebook and supplies.
· Work on the warm-up
How to complete a warm-up:
· Skip a line from the top or between previous warm-up entry
· Write the date in the left hand margin
· Write each question
· Answer each question in a COMPLETE sentence
How to complete a Schoology assignment:
· Using a computer or the Schoology app on your phone, log on to your account.
· Your username is your last name followed by your first initial (example vanbuskirkl)
· Your password is your school ID number (lunch number).
· Click on the folder for the current six weeks.
· Find the assignment. Read and follow the instructions.
· Click the submit button once you have completed the assignment. If you do not submit, you will not receive credit for the assignment.
· If there is a quiz, return back to the six weeks folder. Click on the quiz and complete. Be sure to click submit at the end in order for your quiz to be scored.
· If there is a discussion, read and follow the instructions. Make sure to reply to at least 2 other students in at least 1 complete sentence for each discussion.
How to keep track of your grade:
o The teacher will give you a new grade record sheet (GRS) each six weeks
o When a graded Test, ICA or HW is returned to you put the information from that paper on to the GRS as follows:
· In the “Daily Work” column put the name of the assignment. If you headed your paper correctly this can be found in the upper left side of the paper
· In the “Date” column put the date the assignment was due
· In the “Grade” column put the grade you got on that assignment
o c. When a graded major test or lab is returned to you place the information describe above into the “Major Test / Labs portion of the GRS
How to keep an orderly notebook:
o You must have a note book dedicated to this class only. This must be a one-subject notebook. You must not share the notebook for this class with any other class
o The notebook for this class must be a three ring binder; the spine of this three ringed binder cannot be less than 1½ inches.
o In this binder you must have the following each and every day:
· A minimum of ten sheets of blank loose leaf paper
· 5 dividers
The pockets of your notebook should be organized as follows:
· One divider for all of your handouts
· One divider for all of your current assignments
· One divider for all of your notes
· One divider for all of your tests and labs
· One divider for all graded work.
At the end of a six weeks grading period you may wish to clean out your notebook. However these papers must be in your folder all year long:
· The papers that pertain to the current chapter of study
· All major tests
· All labs
· All six weeks grade record sheets
How to ask a question during a lecture:
· Raise your hand
· Wait to be called on
How to ask a question during a group activity or lab:
· Ask your teammates first.
· If no one on your team knows the answer, ask a neighboring team.
· If they do not know the answer, raise your hand and wait for Mrs. V to come to you.
How to answer a question orally when you do not know the answer:
· Never answer a question with “I don’t know”
· Answer a question you do not know the answer to with one of the following responses:
· My I have some more information please?
· May I have some time to think?
· Would you please repeat the question?
· Where might I find some more information about that?
· May I ask a friend for help?
How to turn in an assignment:
· Highlight your name and class period
· Pass the assignment forward to Mrs. V.
· NEVER place any assignment on my desk. I will throw it away.
How to turn in late work:
· Write LATE at the top of the paper
· Place the paper in Mrs. V’s HAND! Do not put on my desk!
How to make-up work:
· Check the class website or Schoology for missed notes and assignments.
· Then check the ABSENT folder for your class.
· Get any note pages or assignments from the folder
· Obtain missed notes from a teammate
· You have one day per day you were absent to arrange make-up work with Mrs. V. This must be done before or after class or during tutorials.
· Once completed, write ABSENT at the top of the assignment
· Turn in the assignment to Mrs. V’s HAND
How to ask to go to the restroom:
· Raise your hand with your index and middle finger crossed like an “R” in sign language.
· When Mrs. V says yes…turn in your GET OUT card to her.
· Obtain the hall pass and fill it out completely.
· Leave the room quietly and return without disturbing the class.
How to exit the class at the end of the class period:
· When the bell rings, remain seated and quiet.
· If everyone is seated then, Mrs. V will dismiss the class. The bell does not dismiss the class.
When we leave the class as a group:
· Unless otherwise instructed when we leave the class as a group you will leave your things in the room. The door will be locked.
· While we are in the hall you will not speak to anyone, not to a classmate, not to a teacher, not to another student, not to anyone!
· While we are in the hall you will not fool around, you will not touch each other, you will not poke each other, throw things, or otherwise be a distraction to yourself and others
· While we are in the hall the only people who will know that we are in the hall are those that see us in the hall
· Other classes in the hall not following these procedures does not give you permission or a reason for you to cease following these procedures
· When these procedures are not followed the entire class will be brought back to the room so that these procedures can be reviewed
How to give attention to the teacher:
o When the teacher needs your undivided attention the teacher will say these words: “Howdy”
o At these words all students will respond with “Howdy” then…
· All talking stops
· All hands are emptied of whatever is in them
· All eyes are on the teacher
How to behave when there is a substitute teacher:
· Begin class as usual, following the procedure for coming into class
· There will be assignments for you to do that will be due by the end of class. These are the only assignments you are to give a substitute
· Never give a substitute homework
· Never give a substitute late work
· Never give a substitute early work
· There will always be a homework assignment on a day that there is a substitute, you are expected to begin that homework assignment if you finish the in class assignment early
· If you do not finish the in class assignment do not give it to the substitute, rather turn it in late when the teacher returns
· Make sure that your behavior with a substitute is twice as good as it is with the teacher, in such a case the response of the teacher will also be twice as good. The same is true if your behavior is not twice as good!
How to behave in the computer lab:
· The computer lab is a privilege. You will enter quietly, find an empty computer and sign in to your Novell login.
· Then sit quietly and wait for Mrs. V’s instructions.
· Anyone who is off task in the computer lab will receive a zero for a daily grade and will complete an alternate assignment.
How to earn punches on your STAR card:
· Score an 85 or higher on test=1 punch
· Score 95 or higher on test=2 punches
· Show kindness at an unexpected time=1 punch
· Trade in 2 “GET OUT” passes=1 punch
· I will give out “punches” as I see fit for various reasons. Do your best to be on task each day to earn punches!

§ Add 5 points to a test grade (entire card filled up)
§ Drop a low daily grade (other than a zero) (entire card filled up)
§ Pick your partner (must have half of card filled up)
§ Turn in a late assignment without losing points (must have half of card filled up)
