Cultural Collage
Mission: Create a balanced visual representation of American culture on “Animoto”!
You are responsible for preparing a foreign exchange student for his/her time in America. To do this, you are to assemble a cultural collage that fully shows aspects, both positive and negative, of American culture. You can cut and paste images that represent the 1)norms 2)folkways 3)mores, 4)taboos, 5)laws, 6)values, 7)beliefs, 8)material cultural items, 9)sanctions, 10)symbols, and 11)language of American “mainstream” culture. You should also consider representing aspects of ideal and real culture. This should be well thought out, not simply a hodge podge of “materialistic Americana” pasted together.
Accompanying the collage should be a separate sheet explaining the significance of the pictures you have chosen. Explain how these pictures represent American “mainstream” culture. To have a full representation, many aspects (therefore many images/pictures) should be shown. Images from hardcopy publications can be scanned for use in our library – by Ms. Johnston’s desk.
