Graphic Design & Marketing Event Intern

The Graphic Design Internship program at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival includes graphics, marketing, and special events duties. Projects may include, but are not limited to:
• Graphic Design: Assist the graphic designer with all needs for the 2016 Minnesota & Kansas Renaissance Festivals. Position responsibilities include but are not limited to: managing multiple projects, organizing advertisement layouts, promotional materials and other visual communication media. Projects include: creating print ads, social media promotional ads, coupons, flyers and more.
• Social Media: Creates digital assets for the MRF central social media accounts, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Snapchat, YouTube and Websites. Collaborates with marketing coordinator to manage social media calendar and develop new marketing campaigns.
• Secondary Events / Community Outreach: Attend secondary events in the Twin Cities area to manage entertainers and promotional material distribution.
• Theme Weekend Coordination: Planning the Festival’s special event weekends such as Highland Games, Chocolate and Wine Festival, 5K Run, Longbow Competition, Pet Fest, & Fairy House Competition. Securing sponsors, vendors and competitors for all of the weekend events.
• On-site Special Event Execution: Vendor and site set up on Friday before each Festival weekend. Managing the special events and competitions during the Festival weekends.
• Miscellaneous: Maintaining marketing databases, research, create call lists, ticket distribution, assisting the marketing department staff as needed.
Skills required:
Software programs: Experience with the following programs is a must: Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Dreamweaver
Written Communication- Writes clearly and informatively; edits work for spelling and grammar; Varies writing style to meet needs; Able to read and interpret written information
Oral Communication- Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations; Listens and gets clarification; Responds well to questions; Demonstrates group presentation skills
Problem Solving- Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in a group problem solving situation; Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
Interpersonal Skills – Focuses on solving conflict; Maintains confidentiality; Listens to others, remains open to others’ ideas and tries new things
Other: Strong multi-tasking & organization skills. Must be out-going, detail oriented and respond well to pressure and deadlines. Marketing and Event planning experience a plus.
Hours: Full-time seasonal, Mid-May through September. Nights and weekends required. Office hours are M-F, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Must be available to work nights & weekends.
