Men’s Basketball VS Galion

2/1/15

Last Friday, January 30, our own Buckeye Valley Barons Basketball team defeated the Galion Tigers 60-55. Luke Davis and Jesse Tomlinson led the team with 16 points each as the Barons climbed to an 8-5 record. Also with this win, the basketball team brought their conference record up to 6-3, tying Marion Harding and Pleasant for the division lead. The Barons also improved their home record to 5-1, which may have something to do with our student section.

The Baron basketball student section is becoming known around the MAOC as the most supportive, creative, energetic, and hostile student section in the league. If you come to a game, make sure to follow @Barons901 for the theme of the game. Past themes have included white out, blackout, beach, USA, and neon. You should also come to the game prepared to yell. BV’s student section is one of the loudest out there. So loud in fact, that it was nominated for the Golden Megaphone, an award given to the best Ohio high school student section. Nominees for this award vary from 3-6 per year. The winner will be chosen at the start of the basketball playoffs so make sure to keep up with the award to see if BV won. Also be sure to note the players greatly appreciate the support of the student section: “Our Student Section is so amazing. No doubt it helps us more than you guys realize in big games!”- Baron varsity basketball player, Tim Schilling.

Also supporting the Barons at last Friday’s game was the Buckeye Valley pep band. The band made sure the crowd was entertained during half time and quarter breaks, performing songs such as “Seven Nation Army,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” and “The Lion Sleeps Tonight.”

Make sure you come out and support the basketball team for their next game against Marion Harding. Buckeye Valley is tied with Harding for the division lead making this game all the more important. Be at the high school gym by 7:30 next Tuesday, February 3rd to support the team. Come even earlier than that to catch a glimpse of the Baron’s future. The freshman and junior varsity teams will be playing just before the varsity game, freshman starting at 4:30. Don’t forget to check @Barons901 for the theme!
