Description of the Business Environment: Lockheed Martin UK – Strategic Systems (LMUK SS) is the single contractor providing specialist Waterfront In-Service Support to the Royal Navy's Trident Strategic Weapon System (SWS). The company plays a supporting role in the operational readiness of the nation's nuclear deterrent on board the Vanguard class Trident Submarines and provides the Ministry of Defence (MoD) with safe, efficient and responsive support, while meeting programme and cost targets. LMUK SS, as part of the ABL Alliance with AWE and Babcock, are now responsible for the management of operations at the Royal Naval Armaments Depot Coulport (RNAD(C)). The MOD retains ownership and control of the site.
A vacancy has arisen within LMUK SS for an SWS/Surface Support Equipment (SSE) Technician to work as an integral member of the Engineering Department based at HMNB(C).
The post holder would be functionally responsible to the Surface Support Equipment Associate Manager Essential: Due to MoD requirements, successful candidates will be required to undergo a security clearance check. You must be able to travel throughout the UK and occasionally the US.
Specific Job Description:
Duties / Responsibilities:
·  Conduct tasks for the maintenance, modification and support of the Trident SWS Launcher System and SSE as directed by the planning department within the bounds of personal competences
·  Provide preventative and corrective maintenance support to SSBN & shore based SWS Launcher systems and equipment.
·  Assist qualified engineers with work on the SSE in the SWSB and at the waterfront.
·  Assist qualified engineers during work on operational SSBN’s and boats in LOP(R).
·  Attend required facility (SWSB, RNAD(C)) training and Weapon System training as assigned and directed by the personal training profile.
Required Skills:
·  Have an established mechanical "Hands on" working background
·  Effective communicator on all levels
·  Demonstrate IT skills to a competent level and have experience in using Microsoft Office 2010 applications
·  Ability to interrogate PC based databases
·  Pro-active approach to providing solutions to emergent challenges
·  Able to take ownership of tasks as delegated
·  Be a confident team player whilst being able to communicate at all levels
·  Good timekeeping essential
·  Have first rate customer interpersonal skills
·  Ability to demonstrate exceptional attention to detail
Desirable Skills:
·  Hands on mechanical experience
·  A willingness to learn and take lead of tasks
Typical Minimum Education & Experience:
·  Standard Grade Maths, English and a minimum of two science qualifications
·  Ability to demonstrate experience gained from working in a mechanical environment
