Treasurer’s Report

The Library Advisory Board sponsored the library’s participation in the Galveston County Reads program. This included the following expenses

725.35 / Previous Balance
-225.00 / Dr. Howard
-24.36 / Refreshments
475.99 / Ending Balance

Director’s Report

  1. Brenda thanked the board for underwriting Dr. Howard’s program on autism at the Galveston County Reads event. 21 people attended the presentation along with 3 Library Advisory Board members. The event was very well received. Brenda announced that Lynn Burke from UTMB will head up the Galveston County Reads Program next year, 2007. Wider participation in the book selection for next year’s “Galveston County Reads” program is urged by going to www.galvestoncountyreads.org.
  1. Brenda advised that the Community Room will become the Computer Room in the future, but we are still developing ways to house the Summer Reading Program when space in the Community room is lost to public access computers. This will occur at the end of SRP 2006, approximately July 2006. This year’s SRP begins the week of May 31, 2006. An organizational meeting to plan a “Friends of the Mae S. Bruce Library Recruitment Booth” will tale place on Thursday, May 4, at 1:30 pm at the home of Kim Holliday.
  1. The new Children’s Librarian is Julie Fornea. Welcome!
  1. The last week in April is National Volunteer Week. Brenda requests that the Advisory Board meet at that time for library photos, wearing business attire.
  1. Brenda has revisited the library’s federal tax status. While the Mae S. Bruce Library is NOT a 501 © (3) non-profit organization, the FRIENDS of the Library IS. Research is ongoing into the procedures to reinvigorate the Friends group.

Old Business

Heritage Festival: Jack is continuing to research this event. Barbara suggested a

fund-raiser book and plant sale. We will discuss this at a future meeting.

New Business

  1. Sue McLenna and Brenda Cheatham are researching the mechanics of revitalizing the Friends Group, clarifying the IRS angle, and getting the bank accounts up to date.
  1. Linda suggested that that we have a Friends Recruiting Booth during the kick-off for the Summer Reading Program. We will meet Thursday, May 4, at 1:30 pm at Kim Holliday’s home, 7051 Pearson Road, Santa Fe, Texas.
  1. Linda also suggested that we NOT participate in the Heritage Festival this Fall, but instead host our own book sale in October or November at the library.

There being no additional business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:35 pm. The motion was made by Linda Coyle, and seconded by Barbara Wells.

Respectfully submitted,

Lark J. Tedesco
