MYP Community Project Proposal -- Due to ELA teacher Thursday, March 5th
Over the next few weeks, you will finalize your plans for your MYP Community Project by writing a MYP Community Project Proposal. Before you write your proposal:
1) Decide which community need/problem you’d like to focus on in your project
2) Find at least THREE quality sources of information about your topic.
3) Read the sources and take notes.
Once you have finished your background research, write your proposal. Your proposal can be typed or hand-written. If it is typed, you must submit a printed copy of the proposal. No electronic submissions will be accepted.
WRITING THE MYP COMMUNITY PROJECT PROPOSALYour proposal must include the following sections:
I. Describe the community that is the focus of your project:
A. What community is the focus of your project?

II. Summarize your research: What did you learn about your community problem/need through your research?
III. Decide how you will take action:
A. How will you take action to address this community need/problem?(If you are unsure of how to take action, look at some of the ideas below).
B. What is the goal of your action? (Sample goals: to raise awareness, to inform, to change behaviors, to create/innovate, to advocate, etc.)
C. Make a step-by-step plan for how you will make this happen. You will submit evidence that you have completed your plan on May 1st.

Application for Imaginon Making Trip
On April 1st, we will be taking a small group of 8th graders to Imaginon on a Making Trip. On this Making Trip, you will have an opportunity to use the resources at Imaginon to take action. You must apply to go on this trip.
There are several resources at Imaginon that you may want to use to help you take action on your community issue:
● A sound booth for recording songs, poems, podcasts, or spoken word pieces
● A green screen for creating videos or movies
● Stop-action cameras for making cartoons
● Computers with free internet access and loaded with a variety of software, including: Microsoft Office, Audacity, Inkspace, GIMP, and Blender.
If you are interested in this trip, complete the following application and submit it with your project proposal on March 5th.
No late applications will be accepted.
SPACE IS LIMITED--We will only be able to take a small percentage of the 8th grade students. Therefore, only detailed applications that clearly describe how the resources at Imaginon will help you complete your project will be considered. If your application is incomplete or does not adequately describe how you will use the resources at Imaginon, you will not be considered for the field trip. Any student who has ASD, ISS, or OSS between now and the trip will not be able to go.
If we have more students qualify for the trip than we have spots, selection will be by lottery.
The cost of the trip will be $3.00. Scholarships are available. See your teacher to request a scholarship.
