Counselor Application

WHAT: Aggies Reaching Out (ARO) is an outreach program targeted to 8th graders within the Rio Grande Valley area. As a program we are driven to create meaningful mentorships with these 8th graders while encouraging them to pursue higher education and valuable leadership qualities. During the trip activities will include shadowing students during their afternoon classes, touring local businesses, small group discussions, various team building activities, and nightly counselor bonding.

WHEN: The week of Sunday, May 11th to Saturday, May 17th, 2014.

WHERE: This year, ARO will be held in Edinburg and McAllen, Texas at three different middle schools.

WHO: There are approximately 60 Aggie counselor positions.

Required Fees: $50 Counselor Dues: This includes meals, transportation, and housing. There are scholarships available for counselor dues.

Important Information:

Applications are DUE Friday, February 28, from 8 AM to 5 PM at the student worker’s desk in the Student Programs Office (MSC 2240).

When you turn in the application it MUST have a MSC Cover Page attached, which you can fill out at http://www.msc.tamu.edu/spo/apply/.

Interviews will be held between March 3th and March 7th, between 10 AM and 5 PM.

You MUST sign up for an interview time when you turn in your application at the Student Programs Office. The interview is business casual; please meet outside your interview room 15 minutes before your interview time.

Notification letters will be in the Student Programs Office on Monday, March 17th, 2014 8 AM – 5 PM.

2. Leadership Training #2 Sunday, April 13, 2014

3. ARO Refresher May 10, 2014

4. ARO Trip May 11-17, 2014

This is an amazing opportunity to spread the camaraderie and selfless service of Aggieland by encouraging these 8th graders to get involved and excel early in their academic career. We know that a mind is a terrible thing to waste, so with your assistance we hope that we can help them achieve new heights.
