The exhibition celebrates the late McQueen's extraordinary contributions to fashion, who challenged and expanded fashion beyond utility to a conceptual expression of culture, politics, and identity. The exhibition features 100 ensembles and 70 accessories, drawn primarily from the Alexander McQueen Archive in London, with some pieces from the Givenchy Archive in Paris as well as private collections, signature designs including the bumster trouser, the kimono jacket, and the three-point "origami" frock coat.

The Cloisters

The branch of The Metropolitan Museum of Art devoted to the art and architecture of medieval Europe is made up of original stonework from medieval French cloisters. The collection is comprised of approximately five thousand works of art dating from about the ninth to the fifteenth century-and includes the seven ‘Unicorn Tapestries”, a series fifteenth-century masterpieces of wool and silk from the Netherlands.

Sporting Life explores the relationship between active sportswear and fashion over the past 150 years. Featuring more than 100 garments, accessories, and textiles from the Museum’s permanent collection, the exhibition discusses changes in silhouette, construction, and technology that have improved the performance and aesthetic of active sportswear. In addition, active sportswear garments are juxtaposed with the fashionable ready-to-wear garments they have inspired. The exhibition features fashion by designers such as Claire McCardell, Norma Kamali, Stephen Sprouse, and Isabel Toledo.

A collection of lovely row houses on 19th Street between Third Avenue and Irving Place, mainly stuccoed buildings that were remodeled early in the 20th century by Frederick J. Sterner.
