About Us
We are the Los Angeles Conservation Corps’ SEA Lab. Located in Redondo Beach, our unique facility houses over 100 different species of marine animals, provides education programs to school children, grows thousands of native plants, and participates in a variety of conservation-related projects including recycling, tree planting, and habitat restoration.
About the Internship
Here is a brief list of some the activities you will be trained to perform as part of your internship:
· Teach children about the coastal environment.
· Care for rescued marine wildlife.
· Grow native plants.
· Plant trees throughout Los Angeles
· Collect and sort recyclables from local parks and schools.
Work schedule: Participants must work a minimum of 20 hours per week. SEA Lab hours of operation are Tuesday-Sunday from 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM. Some internship activities are only offered at certain times, so the more flexible your schedule, the more diverse your experience.
Pay: Participants begin at $7.50/hour that increases after a 1 month probationary period to $7.75
In addition, most participants qualify for our academic scholarships. When this additional money is averaged over 10 months, our hourly rate is roughly $ 10 .00/hour!
Minimum Qualifications:
· Applicants must be between the ages of 18-24 years of age.
· High school diploma or GED preferred but not necessary.
· Willing and able to commit to a one year time period.
· Enjoy working in the outdoors in all kinds of weather.
· Excellent work habits –maturity, punctuality, attendance, positive attitude, dependability, high standards for quantity and quality of work produced.
· Interest in Education, Environmental Studies, Marine Biology, Botany, Horticulture or Conservation a plus.
