Learner Profile mini lesson ideas

Ø Display Attribute word. Ask students to discuss the meaning or example in small groups for a few minutes. Bring them back together to share. Reveal the “school” definition and help students make connections between their discussed ideas and the definition used in the class/school

Ø Ask students to pose for a picture in which they show caring, open-mindedness, etc. Take the photo and post it near the definition on the wall.

Ø Have photos of staff posing in ways that evoke the attribute words (balanced, caring, etc.). Ask children to identify the attribute shown in the photo.

Ø Have a group of photos showing people doing different things: ask, does this show caring, principled, thinker…? Why or why not?

Ø Sort pictures or statements onto a T chart: (ex.: attribute: yes or no; or Venn: compare/contrast/connect several attributes.

Ø Pull clues out of a bag, box, hat, etc. and have students guess the attribute word that is being introduced. Ex.: pictures of microphone, cell phone, earbuds, pencil and paper, computer, ears, mouth for Communicator.

Ø Read a book, watch a short video and discuss the attributes displayed by character(s)

Ø Read a quote from the quote list. Ask students to discuss in small groups, why this quote supports the attribute. Or, have them write their ideas on post-its or pieces of paper to be discussed later with the group.

Ø Acrostic poems using the attribute words

Ø I am poems (or We are as a class activity to model) Ex.:

I am caring.

I help with the dishes.

I comfort my friends when they are sad.

I include others in games.

I pick up trash around the school.

I put my toys away.

I am caring.
