Linglestown Middle PTO

Date, time, and location: September 13, 2016, 7:00 P.M., Linglestown Middle School

Meeting called to order by: PTO President Dawn Payne

Attendance: Dawn Payne, Nalina Kumar, Brian Butler, Becky Liddick

Principal report: Everything is going smoothly with the beginning of the year. New students are settling in well, considering the new programs being implemented this year—Compuverse for the 8th grade class, Metacognitive skills for the 6th grade class in place of Health, and Math Solutions schoolwide.

New Business:

Picture day: September 27, 2016. Becky Liddick will assist.

Rewards program: Not started yet. Typically doesn't begin until at least two full cycles have been completed to allow the students to acclimate.

Box Tops: Starting Friday October 7th. Nalina will go through the list of parent volunteers to hand out kisses.

Add contact info on the sign-up sheet so parents can inform someone if they can't make it for the day they volunteered or they can check to see if there was an opening at the last minute.

We are starting a monthly drawing. For every 10 box tops a student brings in, their name will be entered into a drawing for a $5 gift card. Each grade will have a winner. Hopefully this will help increase participation!

Fall Fundraiser: No PTO fundraiser in September

Spirit Wear Sale: Ask Jeanette what we earned off the sale last year. Is it worth the time and effort considering kids can now buy clothes at the grocery store? We will look at other fundraising options in place of it such as: Red Robin Rewards and Giant Rewards. Also looking at aligning with four area restaurants to participate. Considering Gordon's and Giovanni's.

Fall dance: October 14th. Ask Ms. Hillman who sponsor is. Ask the sponsor to either come to the October meeting or give us a report on what they will need from us. Maybe they can tell us what the raised money will go towards? We can pass that info on to parents who have questioned in the past why their students are being charged.

Website: Ms. Hillman oversees it and can handle any changes that may need done.

CD memorandum from Karen L McConnel, Asst. Superintendent for Finance and Administrative Operations informing us that PTOs aren't covered under CDSD liability insurance. Should we look into this?

Looking ahead

Sub sale: Runs Tuesday, November 1-November 8. Delivery will be November 22.

Cookie dough: Sheets will go home on November 22 so the students can show them to family over the Thanksgiving break. It will run until December 2. Dawn will check to see on the delivery date.

Our November meeting is scheduled for election day. Dawn will ask Mr. Termin if he thinks we should reschedule it.
