LEVEL: 9TH GRADE

COURSE: ALGEBRA I

UNIT: SYSTEMS OF EQUATIONS

APPROXIMATE TIME: 2-3 WEEKS

ORGANIZER: Which cell phone company offers the best plan

for my needs?

TARGETED STANDARDS:

**Core Content is the same for all lessons.

· ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS:

MA-11-5.3.3 => Students will model and graph systems of linear equations (two equations in two variables) and apply the system to solve and interpret real-world problems.

· MAJOR CONTENT:

Solving systems of linear equations using graphing, substitution, and linear combination as they pertain to real-world situations.

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS:

· How can a cell phone plan be represented mathematically?

· When is one cell phone plan better than another?

· What are some other situations that could be solved using systems of equations?

ENABLING SKILLS/PROCESSES:

· Students should understand the concept of slope.

· Students should be able to graph a line.

· Students should be able to solve an equation in 2 variables given one of the variables.

· Students should be able to write an equation in two variables given the slope and y-intercept.
