Job Summary:

The Payroll Manager will manage the payroll department, which is responsible for processing an average of 3,500 union employees’ paychecks per week during peak times. This position includes payroll tax reporting, union reporting, payroll related audits and financial reporting. The Payroll Manager will supervise the selection, training, development, appraisal and work assignments of four direct reports.

Essential Functions:

· Approves all payroll has been posted and all timesheets have been received

· Communicates with union representatives regarding union reporting and benefit packages

· Communicates with field personnel on payroll and union report processing

· File federal and state withholding and unemployment taxes

· File various quarterly payroll reports (i.e. federal 941, state 941s, unemployment)

· Complete account reconciliations , payroll accruals, and payroll forecasts

· Research and setup withholding, local withholding, unemployment tax tables

· Compile and maintain union funding notices and update the Multi-Employer Pension Plan

· Participate in unemployment insurance hearings as needed

· Complete year end procedures (i.e.W-2s, W-3, state reconciliations, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Proficient with Microsoft Office

· Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

· Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals

· Ability to effectively communicate with employees, co-workers and customers

· Effective time management skills, and being able to manage one’s own time

· Possess a team-oriented attitude

· Ability to work with deadlines independently as well as in a team environment

· Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

· Ability to work some overtime at month end and year end

· Knowledge of multiple company, multistate payrolls

Education Requirements:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

· Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a payroll function required

· Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a management position preferred

· Experience with construction unions is a plus
