General Description (Purpose and Function):

Researches the effects of toxic chemicals on living things and the environment.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities :

· Conducts research on toxic effects of products.

· Tests and analyzes samples for presence of toxic conditions using microscope and laboratory equipment.

· Complies, analyzes, and interprets data.

· Maintains records and prepares reports and correspondence.

· Reviews scientific literature and remains abreast of technical developments.

· Prepares scientific reports and articles.

· Prepares information necessary for legal action against dischargers of toxic substances where damage has or may occur.

· Appears in hearing and court cases as an expert witness on the effects of toxic substances.

· Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Knowledge of toxicology principles, practices and procedures.

· Knowledge of hazard assessment procedures.

· Knowledge of risk assessment procedures and applications.

· Knowledge of reporting methods and techniques.

· Ability to compile and interpret toxicological, biological and chemical data.

· Ability to plan, coordinate and expedite work projects.

· Ability to communicate with others verbally and in writing.

· Ability to interpret complex rules and regulations.

Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):

· Bachelor’s degree in related field.

Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):

· One year of related work experience.
