What are the required hours?

The hours are flexible based around the student’s schedule, but students must work a minimum of 10 hours.

Is it a paid internship?

No; the internship is entirely volunteer based.

Do you have to take the internship for credit?

You do not have to take the internship for credit, but you can if you would like. Contact your university advisor to find out what the requirements are to use the internship for credit.

When is the application deadline?

The deadline for applications is usually 2 months in advance of the semester for which you are applying, and is set the semester in advance. Check Senator Kohl’s website at http://kohl.senate.gov for additional information, or call the intern coordinator in the Madison office, Joylynn Gilles at (608) 264-5338, if you have questions.

When are the interviews and can the initial interviews take place over the phone?

Interviews are held during the two weeks following the application deadline in the Madison office. Telephone interviews are acceptable, but it is encouraged that you make every effort to interview in person.
