Gingerbread Festival 2016 Gingerbread Decorating Contest at Holidays at the Homestead sponsored by Somers Historical Society
WHERE: The Wright Reis Homestead Rte. #139 & Sunderland Lane (enter on Sunderland Ln. across from Police Barracks & Van Tassell Memorial House)
ENTRY DEADLINE: Saturday, December 3
FESTIVAL DATES: Sunday, December 4 & Saturday, December 10, 2pm - 4pm
ENTRY DETAILS:
· The gingerbread decoration or house must be made with food materials, affixed to a base no larger than 12" x 12" in size include the number 60 somewhere on it. (It's our 60th anniversary this year!)
· Entries must be delivered to the Wright Reis Homestead, Saturday, December 3 between 3pm - 4pm. If you are unable to deliver at that time, email Grace Zimmermann at to make other delivery arrangements.
· Entry fee: Non-perishable food item for Somers Food Pantry at St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
· Entry forms will be available online at www.somershistoricalsoc.org/, on the Society's Facebook page, in their offices on the 3rd floor of the Elephant Hotel or in Somers Library Jean Reidy Children's Room.
This year's theme - "History in My Backyard" Somers Library is lending a hand to the effort by offering a drop in gingerbread house decorating day from 10:00-4:30 on Saturday, November 26. Gingerbread, icing and decorations will be supplied. (While there, check out gingerbread-themed books and pick up a gingerbread recipe!) Information, phone (914)277-4977 or email:
CATEGORIES Adult - 18 + years of age, entering as a single entrant. Youth/Teen - 11 - 17 years of age entering as a single entrant or a team. Child - 5 - 10 years of age entering as a single entrant or a team.
There will be one "People's Choice" award in each category and one overall "Pastry Chef" Award. Votes will be collected through the end of the day, December 10; winners notified the following day. Winning entries will be transported to Somers Library and the Elephant Hotel for further display beginning the week of December 12. Entries will remain on display through December 30, unless entrant requests otherwise All entries must be picked up at Somers Library or the Elephant Hotel on December 30 by close of business. . In the event of inclement weather, Gingerbread Festival 2016 will follow the same schedule as the Town of Somers Holiday Tree Lighting Festivities.

Deliveries accepted at Wright Reis Homestead, 3pm - 4pm, Saturday, December 3. If you are unable to deliver your house at that time, please email to make other arrangements. Please affix this sheet to your entry and bring a non-perishable food item for St. Luke's Episcopal Church Food Pantry as an entry fee. Winners will be notified Sunday, December 11. Winning entries will be transported to Somers Library for further display the following week. All other entries must be taken home Sunday afternoon, December 11. Pick - up is 4pm.

I understand Somers Historical Society & Somers Public Library will make every attempt to ensure the safety of gingerbread creations; however, will not be held responsible for damage to gingerbread entry. Winning entries will be transported to Somers Library for further display the week of December 12th and must be picked up by Library closing on December 30.
