Teaching Procedures:

· Ask the class, what does it mean to be a part of a community?

· Read The crayon box that talked

· Have students try to explain why the crayons did not get along at the beginning of the story

· Ask the students what changed to make the crayons happy at the end

· Divide the class into groups and have each group answer the questions on the Group Exploration worksheet

Assessment: Students will retell the plot of the book by completing the story map worksheet
