Operative paragraph 2: Application of Confidence- and Security-Building Measures

(El Salvador)

PERMANENT MISSION OF EL SALVADOR

TO THE

ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES

OAS-091-02

May 15, 2002

Mr. Secretary General:

I am pleased to take this opportunity to forward to you the register on confidence- and security-building measures applied by the government of El Salvador in 2001.

The above-mentioned report is being presented in compliance with resolution AG/RES.1801 (XXXI-O/01), “Confidence and Security Building in the Americas,” operative paragraph two, and in keeping with the recommendations in the Santiago and San Salvador Declarations on Confidence- and Security-Building Measures. The attached national register is an additional contribution by my country to the preparation of a full, systematic inventory of those measures.

In addition, it is important to point out that the measures in question have been put into practice in the best possible way, on the basis of the Framework Treaty for Democratic Security in Central America, and that they supplement the Treaty’s own plan, as indicated in the second part.

El Salvador confirms its resulting commitment to continue participating in the process of implementing these measures, which help strengthen peace and security in the hemisphere, and cooperation among member states. It would be appreciated it if the attached documents were forwarded to them for their information.

Please accept the assurances of my highest consideration.

Margarita Escobar
