-Announced Programme

Background:

Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship initiated its first Business incubation Centre on Readymade Garments & Handloom on 6th February, 2015. The Centre was formally inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of MSME Shri Kalraj Mishra. The main motive behind the initiation of the centre was to generate opportunities for holistic development of youths of Northeast Region through incubation training and making them realize their full potential by building up their capacities. It is the only center in the entire north east where such facilities are available with incubation support.

Proposed Programme

Clothing is one of the basic needs of human beings. People are now becoming fashion conscious. With change in fashion & style, the stitching of garment also changes. By keeping in view the market demand and the change in fashion technology, IIE proposes to organize a training programme on dress designing which has been suitably designed with emphasis on developing diversified and value added products with introduction of new design intervention. Students participating in the training programme would be trained on sewing techniques, fabrics and materials, colors and design skills. The main objective of the course is to skill to construct professional looking garments and enhancing employability & entrepreneurial skills. The course is equipped with special machines like Industrial type sewing machine, fusing machine, Button & Button- Hole machine, lock-stitch machine; double stitch machines , computerized embroidery machine etc. for creating and designing garment.

About the training conducted so far :

The first training on Business Incubation training on readymade garments started on 3rd August, 2015 for two months with 28 trainees from Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram. After the completion of the training, 6 of the expert trained participants were kept as incubatees on readymade garments center for a period of 3 months with an attempt to procure orders from internal and external sources for them to understand the market needs and develop their entrepreneurial skills so that they can start their own entities and become self employed.

Trainee Exit Level: -

On completion of the course, the trainees are expected to be able to -

•Draft Block patterns and develop these into garment patterns;

•Handle special machines/equipment used for cutting stitching & finishing of garments;

•Use economic layout techniques for cutting of cloth from patterns of garment component;

•Cut, stitch and finish garments for ladies, gents & children using different style & feature in vogue;

•Carry out stage inspection & final inspection & record result in standard formats.

Job Opportunities/ Self-employment::

After completing the course one can get employment in garment manufacturing unit, or get self employed by opening a tailoring shop or even take orders at home.

Faculties:

As an internal Faculty Ms. Chiranjita Sarmah Baruah is engaged for imparting specialized training on dress designing. She has 8 years of hard-core experience as a Faculty of Fashion designing in NEIFT Guwahati. She was also involved with CEC, Guwahati for 2 years as a Faculty.

Experts from NIFT, NID and other such fashion institutes would also be involved in conducting the training.
