LAST WEEK’S PROGRAM
Johnston County Airport Director Ray Blackmon reported that the airport is home base for 115 aircraft. Besides more hangar space, the airport needs a larger terminal building to handle the 75-80 takeoffs and landings daily. He also told us about the rendezvous of big-name politicians Monday, May 5 as former President Clinton, Governor Mike Easley, and the governors of New Jersey and Iowa arrived by separate aircraft before uniting for a campaign swing that started with a “front porch” rally in Smithfield.

ANOTHER MEMBER LOST?
Word has come that Eddie Vargas is no longer in the area, and he has missed five consecutive meetings. Attempts to reach him by phone have not worked. Unless someone hears otherwise, he will be dropped as of April 10, which will bring our membership total to 50.
UPCOMING FUND-RAISING PROJECT
We’ll be collecting admission money for a softball tournament at Smithfield Community Park on Saturday and Sunday, May 17-18 (7am-4:30pm).
