Job Title: Careers Consultant – FMCG, Healthcare & Energy Sectors
Faculty: Imperial College Business School

Responsible To: Assistant Director, Careers Advising
Key Working Relationship: Internal: Students, Programme Teams, Marketing and Communications, Alumni services, Admissions.
External: Alumni, Employers, Professional bodies (e.g. CIPD, AMBA, AGCAS), Careers related services, other Business School careers services.
Purpose of the post
The Careers Consultant will contribute specialist one to one careers guidance and information for all business school students and alumni. They will respond to the occasional demand for out of normal working hours (0900-1700) appointments, including evening appointments and occasional Saturday sessions.
Working as part of a small team of professionals delivering careers advice, the Careers Consultant will work with students across all Masters and MBA programmes (& on occasions alumni of these programmes) providing one-to-one consultancy and delivering career and professional development workshops with specific focus on employers and careers in the FMCG, Healthcare & Energy sectors. The Consultant may also be required to deliver consultancy to a small number of Executive MBA students and will need to be comfortable working with both non experienced and experienced professionals.
The prime focus of the role, particularly for our full-time students, is to ensure they are appropriately prepared to compete effectively in the labour market and secure positions at top-tier graduate and MBA employers.
They will build effective relationships with students and alumni to help in understanding their career requirements and to support ongoing careers activities.
They will attend and support careers and employer events and conferences as required. This will include evenings and weekends.
Key Responsibilities
· To contribute to the full range of careers service activities for MSc students interested in a career in FMCG, Healthcare & Energy mainly through providing 1:1 consultations, small group work and class based presentations on topics similar to the following:
· Identifying career objectives
· Developing careers strategy
· Researching the market,
· Developing a targeted approach
· Marketing yourself – including CV writing, cover letters, presentation skills, networking
· Interview techniques – preparation and practise etc
· Assessment Centre preparation
· Labour market information (i.e. salary surveys)
· To provide careers consultations for full time MBA students
· Identify, contribute to and/or develop service provision where gaps exist in the programme. Work with FMCG, Healthcare & Energy sector specialists in Employer Relations team in Careers to define and deliver a thorough programme for both MBA & MSc students, to include a rigorous pre-arrival component and on-site in person sessions, to be delivered in a timespan that aligns to the recruiting timetables of the major employers in the sector.
· Develop and maintain an understanding of global employment trends in the FMCG, Healthcare & Energy sectors in both the MSc and MBA employment markets.
· Contribute to the e-resources and online delivery of relevant careers modules
· Taking part in relevant training both internally and externally to ensure that professional standards of service delivery are maintained
· To assist the team in attracting the best and brightest students onto the portfolio of programmes through presentations to prospective students, reviewing applications and interviewing prospective candidates.
· To support and work closely with the careers team and undertake any other activities as may be required
· Attend and participate in both internal and external career and employer events and conferences as required.
· To understand and adhere to existing service levels and provision
· To compliment what is already in place through the one to one activity with students
· To develop a close working relationship with the careers team and external consultants

Education
Essential:
· Educated to degree level or equivalent
Experience and Knowledge
Essential:
· Significant experience and working knowledge gained from a similar role in another university or business school, and/or a recruitment role within the FMCG, Healthcare & Energy sectors.
· Experience of recruitment, especially conducting interviews
· Strong experience of design and delivery of a range of workshops to a diverse audience
Desirable:
· Experience in a field such as – Graduate and/or MBA recruitment, experienced hire recruitment
· Understanding of different FMCG, Healthcare & Energy environments
Skills
Essential:
· The interpersonal skills required to help students make effective career choices on an individual (and where appropriate - group) basis.
· The ability to be pro-active in helping students manage their careers
· The ability to work with pre-experience MSc students as well as more experienced professionals on the MBA programmes. The ability to adapt your approach according to their needs.
· Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills and sensitivity to the needs of others.
· A willing and flexible team member who is happy to participate and contribute to the general work of the department and also work on their own initiative
· A sensitivity to different cultures and employment differences between the UK and elsewhere

Desirable:
· MA/PGDip Careers Guidance or its equivalent
· An understanding of the key issues affecting the career choices of international students
· Experience of delivering psychometric testing (ideally level A and B qualified)

· Experience of e-learning or developing e-resources
