Spike Policy

Golf shoes must be spikeless or may have reduced length plastic or rubber spikes commonly referred to as “SoftSpikes.” The ban on standard-length metal and ceramic spikes applies to members and guests alike, and pertains to the course, the range, and all practice areas. Consult the golf shop staff if you need help in complying with this rule.

Reserving Tee Times

STARTER 301-320-GOLF (4653) GOLF SHOP 301-320-3605

From March 15 through December 31, play will be governed by tee times. To obtain a tee time, call the starter at 301-320-4653 according to this schedule:

For weekday tee times:

  • For Monday and Tuesday, call after 8:00 a.m. on Sunday;
  • For Wednesday, call after 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday;
  • For Thursday and Friday, call after 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday.
  • For weekend and Monday holidays, call at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday for times before 10:00 a.m.
  • For all other times on weekends and Monday holidays, call or walk up after 8:30 a.m. on Thursday.
  • Single players have no standing on the course.
  • Groups with more than four players are prohibited from March 15 through November 15.
  • No play is permitted before 7:00 a.m. on any day for course maintenance, noon on Mondays.
  • Golfers must play as assigned by the starter and may not begin on #10 without the starter’s approval

Callers may reserve only one tee time for each day of the weekend and/or holiday per call. If the group has less than four players, the golf staff will try to fill out the foursome.

Social (S), Swimming and Tennis (ST), and Nonresident (NR) members and hotel guests may make tee times after 8:00 a.m. for starting times after 12:00 noon only on the day of play. S, ST, and NR members may not be treated as guests.

Names of all players must be provided at the reservation time. No “TBA” (to be announced) or “G” (anonymous guest). All players must check in with the starter at least 10 minutes prior to tee time. Those unable to keep their tee time should call and cancel as early as possible.

The starter will continue to provide the KGC with “before” and “after” tee sheets as well as a list of golfers who are “no-shows” or same day cancellations. Golfers with numerous late cancellations may be sanctioned.

Guest Guidelines

A member may bring only one guest before 9:30 a.m. on weekends and holidays. After 9:30 a.m., a member may bring up to three guests. Guest’s names must be listed on the starting sheet. Junior Golfers, whose parents have golf privileges, may bring one junior guest any day after 2:00 p.m. for a guest fee of $25. If your membership class requires payment of a green fee, you are not eligible.

A local guest may be sponsored only twice a month. The member-guest tournaments of each golf activity are excluded from this limitation.

A member will not be charged if a guest is not cancelled and does not play, but may be subject to disciplinary action for repeated no-shows.

Availability of the Kenwood Golf Course

The Kenwood golf course is available seven days a week. While the Golf Groups have priority in making tee times on certain days, they frequently do not use all the tee times available. In any case, they do not have the course all day. Even if there is a shotgun start scheduled for a group, the shotgun will be placed on the golf course so that tee times are available as quickly as possible.

A member may play any day of the week if his/her membership class permits it.

Monday mornings, except on holidays, are reserved for course maintenance. Afternoons are available for membership play unless the Club has reserved the course for an outside group.

Tuesdays, the Seniors (KSGA members) have priority in reserving times until 9:30 am, provided they have reserved their time by 12:00 pm Monday. Any tee time not reserved by then is available for other eligible golfers.

Wednesdays, members of the Kenwood Women’s Golf Association (KWGA) have priority on starting times until 9:30 a.m., provided they have reserved their time by 12:00pm on Tuesday. Any tee time not reserved by then is available to other eligible golfers.

Thursdays, members of the Lady Niners have priority on starting times between 7:30 and

9:30 a.m. on the Back 9 only.

Friday mornings, Junior golfers have priority until 9:30 a.m., mid-June through mid-August. For available starting times after 9:30 a.m., please call the Starter.

Dress Code

The Kenwood Golf Committee believes a successful golf program requires tastefully dressed golfers; therefore, conventional golf attire is required on the golf course and practice areas at all times.

The dress codeapplies to members and guests of all ages. Examples of attire considered in violation of the dress code include swim trunks, bathing or tennis attire, sweat-suits, jeans, cut-off or ragged pants of any length, mini-skirts, tank tops (sleeveless tops withstraps less then 2” wide and a scooped neckline reaching 3” below the sternum), halter or tube tops, tie-dyed pants or shirts, clothing displaying improper language or images, and men’s shirts without sleeves or collars. Men’s shirts must be tucked in at all times. In accordance with these Kenwood Golf Committee guidelines, the Kenwood golf staff will strictly enforce the dress code.

Restrictions by Type of Membership

Please refer to the Kenwood Country Club membership rules.

B & B+ Classes – B and B + members have unrestricted use of the course unless there is a scheduled event.

Play of all other members and their families will be in accordance with the following restrictions during the active playing season (March 15 to November 15).

B Class Spouse – Spouses of B members, on weekends and holidays, may not tee off #1 before 10:00 a.m. or on #10 before 12:00 p.m. except when permitted to compete in certain specified tournaments.

L Class – L members, on weekends and holidays, are restricted from using the course before 11:00 a.m. except when permitted to compete in certain specified tournaments.

W Class – W members and their spouses may not tee off before 12:00 noon on weekends and holidays. On weekends and holidays they must pay green fees and may not make tee times until after 8:00 a.m. on the day of play. Advanced tee times are allowed for weekday play.

YA Class – Young adult members (age 21-29), on weekends and holidays, are restricted from using the course before 11:00 a.m. except when permitted to compete in certain specified tournaments. (Junior Adults, 18-20, have the same privileges as Young Adult members.)

S, ST, and Nonresident Class – members, their spouses, children, and guests may not play before 12:00 noon. They must pay green fees, and may not make tee times until after 8:00 a.m. on the day of play. The same applies to hotel guests.

Junior Children (Under 18) – Children are strongly encouraged to participate in the summer Junior Golf Program to learn the game and make new friends. Children are permitted on the golf course (and the practice areas) only if they are playing golf, practicing golf, or participating in a special Club function. To play on the course, a child must have a set of clubs. Parents should be mindful of practicing proper golf etiquette at all times and set a positive example for their children.

Playing times:

On weekends and holidays, a junior (ages 11-17) may tee off only after 2:00 p.m. and must be accompanied by an adult unless he or she has an established18 hole handicap of 36 or less for boys or 45 or less for girls. Juniors (ages 7-10) may tee off only after 2:00 p.m. and must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

On weekdays, a junior (ages 11-17) may tee off anytime (except during times the course is reserved for seniors, women or niners) if accompanied by an adult unless he or she meets the above handicap requirements. Juniors (ages 7-10) may tee off only after 2:00 p.m. only if accompanied by an adult except when participating in Kenwood JuniorGolf Program sponsored events.

Play at other times may be permitted at the discretion of the Golf Professional if it does not interfere with adult play.

Juniors ages 7 and under may tee off only after 2:00pm and must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Kenwood Country Club expects the highest level of supervision with young children to ensure they are learning proper golf etiquette, respecting the golf course, and are safe. Even the youngest golfers must have a set of golf clubs and meet the dresscode requirements to be permitted on the golf course.

Practice areas:

Juniors may use the practice areas at any time. Children 10 and under must be properly supervised by an adult in the practice areas. When the practice driving range is full, families taking up four or more stations on the driving range should share mats so that other golfers do not have to wait.

Golf Carts:

A person must have a valid drivers’ license to operate a golf cart. Adults must use extreme care when transporting children in a golf cart. Children (7 and under) may not be left unattended in a golf cart.

Niners offer its members competition with their peers, interclub play, and the Niners Championship. Tee times are Thursdays 7:30-9:30 a.m. The season begins with a luncheon meeting on April 10. Eligibility to Play in Golf Events

Kenwood Golf Association (KGA)

Golf members of Kenwood Golf and Country Club. Preference for participation in most events will be given to members of the KGA if such events become oversubscribed.

Kenwood Seniors’ Golf Association (KSGA)

Members 55 years old or older. Maryland Interclub Seniors Golf Association (MISGA) mixers are open only to members of the Kenwood Seniors Golf Association.

Kenwood Women’s Golf Association (KWGA)

Members of the KWGA play in events sponsored by the group. However, the Women’s Club Championship, and the Senior Women’s Championship are open to all Kenwood women golfers.

Kenwood Niners

Women members and spouses of members of all levels of playing ability. All tournaments require golfers to have an established handicap, but open play does not require an established handicap.

18-Hole Mixed Events

Members and spouses of members of Kenwood who have a current USGA 9 or 18-hole handicap index.

Juniors (KJGA)

Children of Kenwood members (all classes). Children must be at least seven years old but not more than 17 unless they turn 18 after January 1 in the year the competition is conducted. Eligibility to participate in scheduled competitions does not affect an individual’s obligation to pay green fees if the individual’s class of membership so requires.

Handicaps

The handicap program at Kenwood maintains USGA Handicap Indexes for men, women, and juniors. Nine-hole handicaps are maintained for women and for juniors. The annual fee for this service is charged to the member’s club account.

Hole-in-One Club

You can join the hole-in-one club by signing an agreement in the golf shop. The member’s account is initially charged $3. An automatic charge of $3 is then made each time another participating member makes a valid hole-in-one at Kenwood.

The player who scores a hole-in-one receives a credit for the balance in the fund. Because the fund is automatically replenished, each subsequent player with a hole-in-one is guaranteed a similar credit. A hole-in-one is considered valid under the following conditions:

  • Someone acceptable to the golf committee attests it. It is made during a round of at least nine holes, except that a hole-in-one made during a match is acceptable even if the match ends before the stipulated round is completed.
  • It is made while the golfer is playing one ball (practice shots do not count). A hole-in-one made in a practice round when the golfer is playing two or more balls is not acceptable.
  • It is made at a hole with a temporary tee even if the golf committee did not specifically define the teeing ground with markers. The length of the hole from the temporary tee should be stated on the certificate. A hole-in-one made on a temporary green with a regulation cup is acceptable.

Golf Carts

Handcarts

1. Keep bags and pull carts off teeing area.

2. Do not take bags or pull carts onto fringes and/or green plateaus.

3. As a rule of thumb, carry bags and pull carts should be kept at least 15 feet from greens.

4. Avoid walking through obviously wet areas.

5. Sand and seed mix is available in one-quart containers for walkers.

Powered Carts

  1. Observe path-only or 90 degree rule when posted (check in with Starter or Golf Shop daily).
  2. When 90-degree rule is in effect, carts MUST enter and exit path at least 30 yards from tees and greens.
  3. When allowed full access, scatter rules or 90-degree rule, keep carts in fairways (as opposed to rough) as much as possible.
  4. When on path, please keep all four wheels on cart path.
  5. Please use sand/seed mix to fill divots.
  6. Please obey ALL cart directional signs.
  7. Carts must stay on paths inside 50-yard marker of greens.

Powered carts are available on a first-come, first-served basis. You must be at least 16 years old and have a valid driver’s license to operate a powered golf cart.

Two golfers and two bags are allowed per cart. Three-bag carts are not permitted.

The Golf Professional, after consultation with the Course Superintendent, has the authority to determine when powered carts will be permitted on the fairways or restricted to the cart paths only. The Golf Professional has the right to refusea cart to any person.

To protect the bent grass fairways, please obey the golf cart rules posted for that day at #1 and #10 tees. Check with the Golf Shop or the Starter prior to teeing off. Carts should be parked behind or to the sides of greens to facilitate transportation to the next tee and to speed the play of golfers behind.
