Position Description

The Associate Dean of Programmes will be among the senior leadership of the Imperial College Business School and will report directly to the Dean of the school. The primary responsibility of the Associate Dean of Programmes is to provide leadership to Imperial College Business School’s graduate masters programmes, develop the vision and strategy for the suite of MBA and MSc programmes, and drive successful implementation. The Associate Dean of Programmes is guardian and champion of the Business School’s teaching, ensuring excellent design and delivery of world class learning opportunities and participant experience. The Associate Dean of Programmes is a member of the Business School Management Board that is responsible for making the key strategic decisions at the school, and as such is jointly accountable for the overall performance of the School. The Business School Management Board is currently composed of the Dean, the Deputy Dean of Faculty and Research, the Associate Dean of Programmes, the four Group Heads, the Director of Executive Education, and the Director of Operations.

A: Teaching and Programmes

To develop the Vision, Forward Strategy and Implementation Plan for Imperial College Business School Masters Programmes

· Develop the vision, strategy and long term plans for Imperial College Business School MBA and MSc programmes and teaching

· Lead implementation of the vision and strategy

· Champion teaching and programmes externally and internally

· As a member of the Business School Management Board, lead on all items and report to it on teaching and programmes plans and activities

To manage delivery of teaching and programmes

· Provide leadership, create the conditions for excellence and motivate staff to exceed their, and the School’s, expectations of performance in teaching

· Oversee the planning and timetabling of teaching and examinations

· Oversee the allocation of staff to teaching and programmes in collaboration with the Area Heads.

· Manage the teaching budget to ensure effective use of financial resources within allocated funds

· Ensure that all teaching and programmes projects, initiatives and activities are managed in an efficient and effective way

· Take accountability for all aspects of Health and Safety for all direct report staff and activities

Drive quality and continuous improvement of teaching and programmes

· To champion the drive for teaching excellence and student satisfaction on all programmes

· Support and take part in the continual refinement of all Masters degree programmes and courses to ensure they remain up to date, relevant and at the cutting edge for our students and client partners

· Ensure that policies, procedures, systems and processes are in place to monitor, evaluate and obtain feedback on all teaching and programmes, to identify actions needed and ensure that those actions are taken

Manage the formal review, accreditation and ranking of programmes

· Manage internal and external reviews and evaluations of teaching and programmes

· Decide on required formal accreditations and professional recognition agreements for teaching and programmes. Ensure the required long term plans are prepared, submissions made and actions taken to secure required accreditations, including

o AMBA

o EQUIS

o AACSB

Develop the programme portfolio and new programmes

· To develop and implement new programmes in collaboration with other members of the Business School Management Board in order to maintain an exciting, competitive programme portfolio and offer in the marketplace

Develop new learning and teaching methodologies and approaches

· To drive the identification, evaluation, design and development of new methodologies and approaches to learning to ensure the Business School stays state of the art in teaching

Student recruitment and admissions; marketing communications

· To provide expert input to, review and sign off:

o Programme recruitment targets

o Programme and student admissions criteria

o Programme fees

o Programme recruitment strategy and plans

o Programme marketing and communications strategy and plans

To teach on degree programmes and executive education courses

· Teach in own area of expertise at the postgraduate and executive level
