Building a webpage with Frontpage in simple. Frontpage is nice because it allows you to create all of your webpages and save them on your 3 ½ floppy and when your finished creating all of your pages you can simply publish each one onto the Internet using Netscape Composer. The basics of using Frontpage is that you create a your homepage on one page and then create many other pages that are the links to your homepage, such as your classes page. You link these pages together to make your website navigatable. The following is a complete list of steps that will guide you smoothly through the process. Have Fun!

1. The first and most important thing is that you have an ACTIVE SEMO account and know your username and password.

2. If it is your first time to publish a webpage you must now go to http://www2.semo.edu/compserv/stuinfo/webpgs.html, where in step 4 you will click on create the http subdirectory. This webpage will fully explain how to create this directory. Make sure you

3. Once your subdirectory is created you can now begin creating your webpages.

4. Open Frontpage on your computer. Make sure you have your 3 ½ floppy in the drive. This is where you will save all of your pages.

5. This first blank document will be where you can create your homepage. This is just like using Microsoft Word. Your homepage can look however you would like. You can type, change the font, color, style, add a picture, and more. This page will have a title, the name of all your links, such as the link to your course pages, your picture, an e-mail link, the time and date of last update, a counter, links to other World Wide pages.

6. To Put your Picture on your homepage, scan it onto your 3 ½ floppy under the filename .GIF. Then Click Insert, Picture, From File, choose 3 ½ floppy A.

7. To make a colorful background, click Format, Background.

8. After creating your homepage you must Save it to your disk. Save it as homepage.html

9. Next, you will need to create a hyperlink to each one of the links, such as My Courses on your homepage. You do this by Highlighting the words you typed for your links, such as My Courses, and then leaving your mouse on this title (my courses) Right Click, choose Hyperlink, and then you will type in the the URL http://semovm.semo.edu/xy12/http/mycourses.htm, remember to substitute your username for xy12. You will do this for EVERY LINK that you created on your homepage!!! Do not forget to save your homepage again right now.

10. Now you are finished creating your homepage.

11. Next you will create the pages that the Links you created will go to.

12. Click on File, New Page, Normal page will be highlighted, click O.K.

13. Now you have a fresh new page.

14. You can use this page to create your Courses Page or any link page that you would like to begin with. You will simply type your class schedule and the web addresses of your professors websites. You will Highlight, one by one, the web addresses of your professors, right click on them, choose hyperlink, and for the URL, type in their webaddress. This will create the link to the their webpage from your webpage. You do this for all other links to other World Wide Web pages. If you chose to create your courses page you will now save this new page on your disk as coursespage.htm

15. You will do Step # 14 for All the Links you made on your Homepage, such as the other link required, Other World Wide Web Pages. You will create this new page and save it as CoolLinks.htm (or whatever you would like to name it.) Always make sure you save these links to your homepage as a name with .htm behind it!

16. Now after you have created your homepage and all the linked pages to your homepage and saved them, you can now publish them using Netscape Composer.

1. Go to Programs, Netscape Communicator, Netscape Composer.

2. Netscape Composer will come up.

3. Click Open, 3 ½ floppy A.

4. Now you must publish each page that you created above.

5. Start with your homepage.

6. Have your Homepage open In Composer AND Frontpage.

7. From Frontpage, Copy all of your homepage and Paste it into the new page in Composer.

8. Next, Save your homepage now in Composer. Save In- Desktop File name would be myhomepage.html

8. Now you must publish each one of your links one by one. Highlight each one, one by one, on your homepage, Right click, Link Properties, and make sure the Link properties match up with the one created earlier : Courses page link property should read http://semovm.semo.edu/xy12/http/mycoures.htm.

Now Click Publish.

Page Title- whatever you name it.

HTML filename – what you named your webpage address when creating the subdirectory. Such as: http://semovm.semo.edu/xy12/http/myhomepage.html , then your HTML filename will be –myhomepage.html.

HTTP or FTP location to publish to –http://semovm.semo.edu/xy12/http/mycourses.htm

Type your Username and Password

Click O.K.

Now your courses page link is published.

9. Now you must Copy and Paste your courses page from Frontpage into a new page in Composer and SAVE IT to the DESKTOP!!! Then REPUBLISH this page just like we did above in Step # 8.

10. You will now do this for every link you created. The only change will be the Page Title, and HTTP or FTP location to publish to. For example, for the Other World Wide Web Pages, the FTP location would be, http://semovm.semo.edu/xy12/http/CoolLinks.htm

11. Just do not forgot that everytime after you paste a new page into Composer you must Re-save it to the Desktop and Re-publish it. Also make sure all of your html names or (codes) matches. Such as: If on your homepage the link to MyCourses= http://semovm.semo.edu/xy12/http/mycourses.htm , then the link property on the Courses page itself should read: http://semovm.semo.edu/xy12/http/mycourses.htm

1. On the bottom of every linked page you have, make sure you type Back To My Homepage at the bottom of each page so that your viewer can go from say, your courses page, back to your homepage via this link. You will Highlight Back To My Homepage, Right click on it, choose Hyperlink Properties, and type your homepage address – http://semovm.semo.edu/xy12/http/myhomepage.html

2. In Netscape Composer you can add design and color to your pages by clicking on Format, and Font, Size, Color, or Style.

3. If you click the large button at the top called H- Line, you will get this nice line that will go across your page wherever your insertion point is. This can be used to make nice borders or dividing lines in your pages.
