Spider fish saver

How it works!

Fish that typically swallow baited hooks are fish that probably are not competing with fish for food. They have the time to remain stationery and gradually ingest the hook and bait. When this happens the angler generally can’t sense the presence of the fish and does not know to set the hook at the proper time and the hook gets lodged in the throat or stomach.

The fish saver prevents the hook from traveling deeper than the distance set by the fisherman, so when the fish can’t move it further into its mouth it will try to swim away with the bait pulling the line and alerting the fisherman to set the hook. Part of the fun of it all is feeling that tug excreted by the fish and pulling the rod to set the hook.

Fish that grab the bait and run with it are generally hooked in the mouth unless they can swim up the direction of the fishing line which then allows the hook to go deeper.

When float fishing or trolling with live bait the fish attacking the bait at the right angle could possibly allow the bait to go deeper and become lodged in the throat of the fish. The fish saver is effective in these situations also and its small profile will not affect the normal use of the fishing gear.

Circle hooks are effective but the fisherman must learn to pull the line slowly to allow the hook to be pulled out of the fish and then if done correctly and the fish does not move quickly the circle hook will hook the lip of the fish. With the fish saver it is not necessary to learn new techniques and more reliable J hooks can be used.
