Hawk aims high for kids with cancer

Some people dream of achieving new heights. For 105.7 The Hawk disc jockey Andy Chase, the idea of new heights is taking on a completely different meaning. Beginning this Monday Oct. 26, he’ll climb atop a billboard in Brick NJ with the hope of raising $105,700 dollars for Ocean of Love, a charity dedicated to helping kids with cancer.

For five days, Andy will eat, sleep and live in a tent on top of a billboard located in front Shore Restaurant Supply on Route 88 in Brick. Although this isn’t Chase’s first time participating, he feels up to the challenge. “There’s no part of this I’m not looking forward to…seeing the kid’s faces and the outpouring of the community makes it all worth it,” Chase said.

All proceeds from The Hawk’s Ocean of Love Billboard Radiothon will benefit Ocean of Love, a non-profit charitable organization based in Ocean County that provides financial and emotional support to children with cancer so that they may experience the “normal joys of childhood.”

The Radiothon began ten years ago with a simple goal of raising $ 25,000 dollars.

Since then, the event has grown exponentially and to date has raised nearly $900,000 for Ocean of Love. “It’s become very personal to all of us, it feels like Ocean of Love is a part of our family,” Program Director Race Thomas said.

This year the Hawk hopes to achieve a milestone: a platinum year of one million dollars in total donations. “Our goal every year is to raise $105,700. This year we only need raise a little bit more than that to reach one million dollars. That’s our battle cry,” Thomas said.

Donation’s to the Billboard Radiothon can be made at anytime by calling Ocean of Love at 732-270-3500, online at Ocean-Of -Love.org, at 1057TheHawk.com or listeners can make a donation in person at the billboard on Route 88.
