MAINTAINING HANDICAPS FOR COMPETITIVE PLAY IN COMPETITIONS

·  Members over 1 year standing must have returned at least 3 competition cards in the preceding calendar year to maintain a competition handicap.

·  Players who fail to maintain their handicap can enter competitions but can’t win any major trophy or event until their handicap has been re-established.

·  Major trophies or events are anything other than monthly and midweek medals, stablefords and similar.

ENTERING COMPETITIONS – DON’T FORGET!
Handicaps; / Check your handicap against the board.
Entry Sheet; / Make sure your name is on the entry sheet and you have paid the entry fee (the entry sheet is normally held in the pro shop).
Sweeps; / Decide whether to enter the optional sweep and 2’s competitions.
Score Card; / Clearly enter your name, handicap and competition name on your card.
Local Rules; / Check the notice board to confirm local rules in force on the day of play.
After You Finish; / Check your recorded gross score for each hole, ensure amendments are clear, double check your handicap, clarify any points of query with the Committee (or Club professional) check the marker has signed the card, sign it yourself and quickly return it to the competition box.
ETIQUETTE

§  No one shall move, talk or stand directly behind the ball, or the hole when a player is addressing a ball or making a stroke.

§  The player who has the honour should be allowed to play before his opponent, or fellow competitor tees his ball.

§  No player shall play until the players in front are out of range.

§  In the interests of all, players should play without delay.

§  Players searching for a ball should signal players following them to pass, and should not continue their play until those players have passed and are out of range.

§  Before leaving a bunker a player must carefully fill up all holes made by him therein.

§  Through the green, a player should ensure any turf cut or displaced by him is replaced at once and pressed down.

§  Before leaving the putting green a player should ensure that any damage made by themselves, equipment or ball is carefully repaired.

§  When play of a hole is complete players should immediately leave the putting green.

§  If a match fails to keep up with the pace of the course and lose more than one clear hole on the players in front it should allow the match following to pass.

§  In the interests of all, players should play without delay.

REPRESENTING THE CLUB - REQUIREMENTS OF MENS SECTION PLAYERS

¨  Players must arrive for matches at the appropriate time as set by the selection Committee. Players must wear a collared type shirt at all times on the golf course. Players will be required to wear team clothing where available.

¨  Players will be expected to attend pre and post-match meals as appropriate. Jackets and Club ties must be taken to matches and worn at post match meals as required by the Team Captain.

¨  Any player who acts in a manner not befitting the dignity of the Club, either on or off the golf course, will be suspended from representing the club. They will also be required to appear before the Club Committee.

¨  In the interests of the Club any player who is not fit or who is out of form must advise the team Captain in good time so that a reserve can be substituted if necessary.

¨  Any doubts, queries or concerns on the above should be directed to the team selection Committee.

¨  Match fees have been averaged out in an attempt to cover most of the cost involved over the course of the season (fees collected away from home are used to cover green fees etc of visitors at home games).

¨  Match fee arrangements will be displayed on team confirmation sheets. In general club match fees shall be £10. In addition at home games players will be required to sort their own green fees (Ruislip and Uxbridge away games arrangements will as per home games).

¨  {Nb. To enable these subsidised fees matches will need to be supported by fund raising events}.

COMPETING AND GENERAL CLUB COMPETITION RULES
GENERAL RULES
These apply unless otherwise stated in the individual competition rules
Competition Dates; / These will be set out in the annual timetable.
Advance Entry Competitions; / All competitions with ‘day’ in their title must be entered in advance.
For these competitions an entry form or sheet will be posted on the Club notice board or an email entry request issued. There will be a competition closing date to observe and Club tee times will be allocated.
On the day Entry Competitions; / Apart from ‘day’ competitions and knock outs, all events can be entered on the day of play with players arranging their own starting time and groupings.
Junior Members; / Junior members are eligible to play in competitions, unless specifically excluded, they must however, play with at least one adult member.
Two Day Competitions / Where 18 hole competitions are running over 2 days a player may play on either day, but can enter only once.
Competition Finals; / To validate places in finals, players must confirm their availability before the published closing date. Tee times will be confirmed in advance of finals.
Booking In and Entry Fees; / In all stroke play events, players must entry their names on the entry sheet in the pro shop (or book in with the organising Committee) and pay the entry fee before commencing play.
Starting Play; / Players must commence play at a time where there is sufficient daylight to complete their round. Players may commence from the 1st, 10th or 13th holes. For Club time competitions play must commence as directed by Committee.
Tees: / Unless otherwise stated all play is from the White competition markers.
Holes: / Unless otherwise stated play shall be over 18 holes.
Handicaps; / Unless otherwise stated handicaps will be up to a maximum of 28.
Score Cards: / On completion of a round all cards taken out must be returned to the competition box (including ‘no returns’).
Determining The Winner: / The winner will be the player who returns the best score for the competition format (ie. lowest medal score, highest points stableford or most holes up).
A player may not win more than one major prize or trophy in a competition.
Minimum Entries; / Where there are fewer than 6 entries scores will be recorded for handicap purposes only.
Distance devices; / Distance measuring devices are permitted in all Club competitions.
Tied Score Decisions: / In the event of a tie the result will be decided on the back 9 (then back 6,3,1 as necessary). The back 9 is defined as holes 10-18 as per the Club scorecard.
How count back scores are calculated: / Where count back is required scores will be calculated as follows;
Stroke-play (medal) – the fractional system will be used.
{ie. Gross back 9 less half of the playing handicap (unrounded) to calculate the net back 9. Then as necessary exactly one-third of handicap for the back 6, one-sixth for the back 3 and one-eighteenth for the back 1}
Stableford – the number of net points scored with shots taken as per the stroke index table.
Par & Bogey – the number of net holes up with shots received as per the stroke index table.
HOLES IN ONE
Restrictions; / A player must be competing in a Club competition and playing to a green with a normal size hole.
Award Of Prize; / An individual trophy will be awarded to commemorate the event.
KNOCKOUT SPECIFIC RULES
Entering The Competition; / An entry sheet will be posted on the notice board.
Players wishing to compete should enter their names before the closing date.
Playing The Competition; / Knockout games can be played on any day but must be completed on or before round closing dates. The rules of golf dictate that players may not play match play KO’s and stroke play competitions at the same time.
Partners; / In Pairs competitions, players must play with the same partner in each round. However, before a pair has played their first round game or if receiving a bye before the first round has closed, one of the partners may be changed. Once done the new pair must stay together for the duration of the competition.
Draw and Timetable; / The competition secretary will arrange and post a draw after the entry closing date. Where there has been a qualifying round this will be seeded by qualifying scores (the 1st will play 8th, 2nd will play 7th etc). The Committee shall determine whether a full draw or round by round draw is appropriate.
Arranging Matches; / There will be a deadline for each round and both parties will be equally responsible for arranging matches within the allotted timescale. In arranging matches players must be willing to play in 2 of 3 slots; weekdays, weekday evenings and weekends. In the event of unresolved ties the competition committee will decide whether to eliminate one or both parties.
Holes; / Play is over 18 holes, or less if a side is more holes ahead than holes remain. If a match is all square after 18 holes play will continue from the first hole on a sudden death basis. Players may agree to commence play from the 1st, 10th or 13th tee.
Sudden Death Play Offs; / In handicap match play events, where sudden death is being used to determine winners, strokes should be given as they were on the first 18 holes. (ie. as per the stroke index table).
The Winners; / The winning side will proceed to the next round and should enter their names into the next round on the draw sheet and advise the competition organiser. Scorecards do not need to be returned. When only one side remains they shall be the declared the winner.
BEST NET SWEEP
Optional Regular Sweep; / There will be an optional net sweep running alongside all the regular weekend and enter on the day cup competitions.
For other competitions the sweep and prizes will be as set by the committee.
Entry Fees and
Split of Prize Money; / The entry fee will be £2. Prize money will be awarded to the winner only if 10 or fewer entries. The top 2 on a 60% 40% basis if 21-40 entries, top 3 on a 50%, 30% 20% basis if more entries (rounded to nearest £). There will be no countback, money will be spilt when ties occur.
Winners; / The names of the Winners will be indicated on the results sheet posted on the Clubroom notice board.
Payment; / Winners will be paid on request, in cash.
2’s COMPETITION
What it is; / Within some competitions there will be a gross 2’s competition.
Entry Fees and
Split of Prize Money; / The entry fee will be set as part of the sweep or clarified as part of the entry. Every 2 scored will generally be awarded with a strip of golf balls (or share of the kitty). Any holes in 1 will be count double or attract an alternative prize.
Winners; / The names of the Winners will be indicated on the results sheet posted on the Clubroom notice board.
Payment; / Winners will be paid at the conclusion of competitions.
THE MAJORS
GOLFER OF THE YEAR
Format: / Annual point accumulating running competition. Players score points according to their finishing position in qualifying rounds.
Handicap Requirement and Allowances: / As per each qualifying competition. Where there are several handicap divisions in a qualifying round there shall be only one for GOY points.
Unless otherwise specified all points shall be awarded on a nett score basis.
Entering: / All players automatically qualify for entry to the competition. There is no fee.
Qualifying Rounds: / All published singles trophy competitions, that are open to all male members, commencing January and concluding at the Christmas Competition count.
Award of Points: / The various qualifying competitions will have different point values and points will be awarded on a sliding scale for each of them. There will be no count-back for the award of points, where scores are tied the points will be equally divided {eg. If points awarded as 1st 5, 2nd 4, 3rd 3, 4th 2, 5th 1. Where 2 players tie for the 1st place score each will receive 4.5 points (ie. the points for 1st and 2nd place are split) the next placed player will be 3rd and receive 3 points}.
