Has the Plague Hit Lucy or Could This Be More Severe?

The classroom lights are off and there is a video of a fireplace showing on the smart board. Van Helsing & Seward are discussing Lucy’s case.

VAN HELSING (DESTIANA). You sent me a letter informing me of Lucy’s symptoms. I looked into it and recognized that her symptoms were very similar to Mina’s, and didn’t Mina die from catching the Plague?

SEWARD (CASSIE). Oh yes! Mina Weston, a girl about Lucy’s age, she was very close to Lucy. She was visiting us when she became sick. Day by day she became weaker almost like the Plague had already killed her. Or was it the Plague that took poor Mina’s life? If it was the Plague, then why was her blood the same as when she was healthy? Her blood wouldn’t have been so healthy if it was the plague, but what else could have dragged the life out of her?

VAN HELSING (DESTIANA). What were Mina’s symptoms?

SEWARD (CASSIE). She lost all the red in her cheeks and constantly complained about bad dreams. Those were enough symptoms for me, I prayed every night for poor Mina. I’m sure that these weren’t the symptoms of the plague.

VAN HELSING (DESTIANA). Anything else?

Harker (Solitaire) enters the classroom, turns on the lights and pulls up a chair beside Seward (Cassie).

SEWARD (CASSIE). Just the two little dots I wrote you about, the ones we found on her throat.

VAN HELSING (DESTIANA). And Lucy’s symptoms are the same?

SEWARD (CASSIE). Yes, exactly the same, Lucy also speaks of bad dreams.

HARKER (SOLITAIRE). I had to go check on my fiancé, make sure she is alright. She hasn’t been wearing her cross around her neck and I noticed that her bible fell into the trash. Or was it thrown away?

SEWARD (CASSIE). I too want to check on her.

Seward stands up and exits the classroom.

HARKER (SOLITAIRE). Thank you very much for helping all of us on my fiancés case. She really needs your help, I need your help. Before coming here I stopped at church to pray, pray that Lucy will soon be herself again. Maybe this is just a punishment from god. Lucy never really went to church and she has been showing weird signs. Who throws away a brand new bible? She has changed.

VAN HELSING (DESTIANA). Your very welcome Harker, I wish the best for the both of you. I’m pretty sure Lucy’s case is much more than just a punishment from god. She is Ill. She will have a few minor changes.

A laugh is heard outside of the classroom and Renfield enters. Both Harker (Solitaire) and Van Helsing (Destiana) stand up at the same time and walk over to Renfield (Cassie).

VAN HELSING (DESTIANA). Who are you? Did you hear us talking?

Attendant runs into room out of breath.

HARKER(CASSIE). Attendant, you let Renfield escape again?

ATTENDANT (IXCHEL). There you are Renfield. I locked the door on you. I’ve got the key in my pocket now.

A fly buzzes around Renfield (Cassie). Everyone watches as he catches it and places it between his lips.

ATTENDANT (IXCHEL). (Disgustingly) Ughh, you and your eating of bugs.

VAN HELSING (DESTIANA). Eating of bugs?

ATTENDANT (IXCHEL). Yes, he enjoys taking the souls of spiders and flies. He’s just as unsanitary as those rats that come off of ships. The one’s who started this mess. Poor Mina, I can’t imagine what she had to go through, it’s a very painful way to die.

RENFIELD (CASSIE). Souls? No, it’s their blood I want, their blood gives me life. It’s my soul that needs saving, I don’t want to end up like poor Mina. Please, send me away. I don’t care where you send me, just don’t keep me here.

Van Helsing circles around Renfield with steady eyes.

VAN HELSING (DESTIANA). You knew Mina? Why do you want to be sent away so badly? Is there something your hiding? Maybe something that could hurt Lucy?

RENFIELD (CASSIE). He wants Lucy, just like he wanted Mina. I can’t tell you anything else, but just please, send me away.

Van Helsing (Destiana) places wolfs bane (a stick) under Renfield’s nose.

Shocked, Renfield (Cassie) pushes Van Helsing to the ground.

RENFIELD (CASSIE). What’s wrong with you?

Attendant (Ixchel) pulls Renfield (Cassie) from Van Helsing (Destiana) and apologizes, while pulling Renfield (Cassie) out of the room.

ATTENDANT (IXCHEL) I’m so sorry. He is mentally ill and is a sinner of all kinds.

Van Helsing (Destiana) dusts off his shoulder, as Attendant (Ixchel) pulls Renfield (Cassie) out of the classroom.

VAN HELSING (DESTIANA). No, my friend, what is wrong with you?

Renfield (Cassie) breaks from Attendant (Ixchel) and gets on his knees in front of Van Helsing (Destiana).

RENFIELD (CASSIE). I beg you to speak to Seward, tell him to send me away. I shouldn’t be here, especially in Lucy’s conditions. I don’t want to be much of a bother.

VAN HELSING (DESTIANA). What do I get out of it?

RENFIELD (CASSIE). Answers... Mina didn’t die from the plague and it’s not what’s killing Miss Lucy either.

Renfield (Cassie) and the Attendant (Ixchel) stand up and exit the class room.

Harker(Solitaire) and Van Helsing (Destiana) exits room too.
