Telling Time

Quarter hour

Description: In this lesson students will learn more about telling time. They will learn how to tell time by the quarter hour.

Goals: a) To educate the students in telling time by fifteen minute increments.

b) To help students in understanding telling time better.

Materials:

White paper

Pencil

Have the students draw a clock with the numbers and minute marks on it.

Discussion:

What are some important times of your day?

Practice showing the time on a clock in quarter hour segments, together and individually.

Practice counting by fives.

Write 12:15 on the board and fifteen minutes after twelve on the board. Explain how they are the same.

Using a clock, have the students count by five minutes, stopping at each quarter hour and saying the time.

Have the students to use the clock they have drawn and place the hands at 3:15.

Go over telling time power point and emphasis the quarter hour section.

Give students a copy of the Time worksheet for homework.
