Glow For Partners of Scottish Education
Background
Glow is the national intranet for Scotland’s schools, allowing all involved in the education of 3 – 18 year olds, including educators and pupils, a secure online environment to collaborate and share. More details about Glow is available at http://connect.glowscotland.org.uk.
Glow is available to partners to Scotland’s schools to offer their content through Glow or to provide the means to work with schools online in a secure environment.
A range of partners already take up the opportunity of using Glow to work with Scotland’s schools, there is a range of tools within Glow and which you would use will depend on how you want to work with schools.
Glow O365.
This is Glow’s implementation of Microsoft O365. This tool may be best suited if you are looking for a high level of anytime interaction with educators and/or pupils – this may include sharing of documents and collaboration on the creation of content.
· Create an online space for your organisation.
· Set up a live newsfeed that would allow you to interact with learners and teachers at any time
· Use OneDrive to create and store up to 1TB of data in the cloud with the ability to view on all your devices
· Use search to find documents and sites to help you link up with other relevant partners and schools.
· Co-create with teachers and learners or receive instant feedback from them with Glow Office 365 online programmes: Excel, PowerPoint and Word
There are also specific areas of O365 that are aimed at specific users such as the Learning Together hub, aimed at pupils, where you can:
· Create personalised learning sites which meet specific contexts and crucially support the needs of the audience you wish to reach
· Establish a learning experience which demonstrates a culture of; collaboration, sharing and innovation.
· Use a range of free tools to create a flipped learning experience.
· Capture and track how and when learning is taking place. This evidence can then be used to help you plan next steps and reflect on the impact of your delivery
· Develop relevant professional learning experiences to reach teachers across Scotland.
Glow Blogs
Glow Blogs is an installation of WordPress. This may be best suited to where the purpose is to provide mainly non-life information for schools and learners where interaction is limited, in this case to comments on a blog.
· Advertise events that your organisation is involved in
· Replace your newsletter and stay in touch with teachers and learners about what is going on in in your organisation
· Get feedback or gather information on your work
· Create a fully functional website to publicise the work of your organisation
· Share your materials, news, downloads, links and more
Glow Broadcasting
This is the use of web conferencing with video and chat along with other options for interaction with users. This is best suited to live delivery of content to schools such as presentations or events.
· Connect live and interactively with teachers and pupils from a location of your choice
· Deliver Professional Learning to teachers in a convenient and efficient way
· Host your own national Glow TV event to interact live with pupils and teachers in their classrooms
· Deliver one to one or one to many presentations to learners who are unable to travel to your location
