Hello Virginia!

Well….Have you Caught the Pilot Spirit?! I certainly have! I am EXTREMELY proud of you and all of the effort that you put into making this year’s PI Convention a success. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to represent the Virginia District! I had the glorious task of accepting many, many compliments on convention activities and overall atmosphere on your behalf.

The Virginia District was represented in Norfolk by President Bobbie Hudson, 88 Pilots, 8 Anchors, and 9 Co-Pilots and Friends. The DAC spent a few days “Getting Back to Basics” during the Council of Leaders. Where we heard from Randy Snow, whose motto is “NO EXCUSES!” Randy gave us the “Courage to Lead” by sharing these key elements: 1. Practice the truth, 2. Be purpose driven, 3. Recognize opportunity, 4. Make a difference!

During the Opening Ceremony, 2006-2007 Governor Dianne and I gave a welcome speech from the Virginia District. I had the honor of joining Co-Pilot Dave Lovingood in presenting the Virginia state flag, and then had the joy of joining my fellow Governors in presenting our district banners.

We got down to business Thursday morning, and approved proposed bylaw changes on adding an E-membership, deleting classifications, and office terms and filling vacancies in office for districts that have Lt. Governors. A proposed bylaw change on adding a provisional membership to Florida Scholarship House Residents was sent back to committee for revision. This proposed bylaw change will be represented at the 2008 PI Convention. We could not have asked for better weather for Thursday night’s Pig Pickin’ in the Park and everyone enjoyed the Dancing With the Stars- Pilot Style. Special thanks to Co-Pilot Larry Stamps for the Karaoke and dance music! I heard several ladies say they just enjoyed listening to him talk!

We were up early Friday morning to participate in the 10th Annual PIF Walk. As the convention meeting resumed, we met the Anchors attending Convention. VA Pilot Carole Jarvis was recognized for organizing the Great Bridge Christian School Anchor Club and we voted on 2007-2009 Directors. Please congratulate Anne Lovingood when you see her, for being elected to the PI Board as a Director!

Saturday wrapped things up with special awards and recognitions. Our very own Dot Franklin was presented the St. Jude Lifetime Achievement award by Honorary Pilot and St. Jude Board Member Peter Decker, the Harrisonburg Pilot Club was recognized for the creation of a Brain Awareness newspaper insert, the Virginia District was recognized as growth district, AND as promised, President Bobbie kissed a pig ! Saturday Night closed out this year’s Convention with a very nice Banquet to honor President Judy Breaud and a lovely installation ceremony.

Thank you again for the opportunity to represent you and I can’t wait to see what you all have planned for the upcoming year!

If there is ever anything I can do for any of you, all you have to do is ask! Bruce, Winston the cat and I say Thank you form the bottom our hearts.

Message from PI President, Judy Breaud:

I am so proud and honored to serve as President of this wonderful organization and I appreciate all the love and support that you have shown me. I have chosen the theme “Catch in the Pilot Spirit” because I believe in Pilot International and all that we stand for. The Pilot Spirit is that special feeling deep inside of each of us that comes from caring about others and working to make a difference in lives of those with brain related disorders. The butterfly is the symbol of hope. It is hope that Pilots bring as they serve others. The life of a Pilot member is enriched by the time and love given to others.

As I said in my acceptance speech, we cannot direct the wind beneath our wings, but we can adjust our flight. We have been a good organization for 86 years, but we must commit to make this a great organization. Catch the Pilot Spirit symbolizes the heart of a volunteer, the mindset to make a difference and the ethics to do what is right for humankind…and it begins with us.

In Pilot Love,

Judy Breaud

Message from our ECR,

Pat Jarvis:

I am so pleased to be your ECR for the 2007-2008 year! We kicked off the year with a great Counsel of Leaders (COL) and Pilot International Convention. I enjoyed meeting and working with your DAC, even though at the time, ECR representatives had not been announced. It was also a treat to meet many of you!

During COL and Convention, many presentations and workshops were held which were designed to assist our District leaders and all Pilots have a successful year in Pilot. As we work together, this year can be the year of SUCCESS for all of us.

If I can be of any assistance to any of you, please email me at , call me at 706-245-5687 or fax at 706-245-0765. Also, please send a copy of your newsletter. It, too, can be emailed, faxed or “snail mailed”—whatever is convenient for you. I want to learn as much about you and your clubs as possible, and your newsletter helps me know about you as members and your projects.

I wish each of you a great year in Pilot. Start making plans to attend your District Convention and PI Convention, so we can continue to work together “Catch the Pilot Spirit”.

In friendship,

Pat Jarvis, ECR

Message from ECR,

Ann Lovingood:

Many thanks to all my fellow Pilots in the Virginia District for your support and encouragement at the PI Convention in Norfolk; and what a convention it was! Bobbi outdid herself in making sure folks had fun along with taking care of business. As much as we laughed, we’re bound to be healthier already.

I will be the ECR for the Louisiana and Tennessee District and look forward to seeing how they “do” Pilot. It’s always been my opinion that you learn as much from an experience as you contribute to it. I want to see Pilot become more visible in the world around us and pray I will also be a worthy ambassador for Virginia Pilots.

Yours in Pilot friendship and service, Ann Lovingood

I Am Powerful!

Author Unknown

I am very powerful!
Whatever I set my mind on having, I will have.
Whatever I decide to be, I will be.
The evidence is all around me.
The power of my will has brought me precisely to where I am right now.
I have made the choices. I have held the thoughts.
I have taken the actions to create my current reality.
And I have the power to change it into whatever I want it to be.
With the choices I make, I am constantly fulfilling the vision I have for my life.
If that does not seem to be the case --
then I am deceiving myself about what I really want.
Because what I really, truly want, I will get!
What I truly wanted in the past, I already have.
If I want to build a billion-dollar business, I will take the actions necessary to do it.
If I want to sit comfortably watching TV night after night --
I will take the actions necessary for that.
Don’t be disappointed in my results --
they’re just the outward manifestation of my priorities.
I will be sure of what I truly want,
because I am sure to get it!
