"I made some very long-lasting friendships with Sigs in college... a lot of them have lasted to this day, and are a very valuable thing to me. The Fraternity has meant a lot to me, and the Ritual is very, very meaningful to me."

Friendship

When you were in high school, you had a group of friends you always did things with. Whatever the activity, they were probably there by your side. A strange thing happens when you get to college though. Most of your friends drift away, and, if you're like a lot of people, you maintain a close relationship with only one or two people from high school.

Now that you are in college, you have probably made new friends with people in your dorm, people you met in a class, teammates, or members of a club you belong to.

Unfortunately, many of these relationships, similar to the ones in high school, will also fade away after graduating college. Sigma Chi members have an advantage over most students though. We have a common bond that goes deeper than time or geography can sever.

The Sigma Chi bond begins during your pledge semester when you are grouped with the top male students from the student body. As a group, you are introduced to Sigma Chi history and information for eight weeks. You also engage in positive, constructive activities and exercises to prepare you for Initiation. Initiation is where we introduce you to our secret Ritual where the deepest meanings and ideals of Sigma Chi are maintained. It is this bond of Initiation and adherence to our ideals that you form your life-long bond with all Sigma Chis, even after college.

These life-long friendships are easily maintained through one of over 100 Sigma Chi alumni chapters throughout the world. Members of our local alumni chapter, for example, engage in activities on almost a weekly basis.

Employment

How many times have you heard the phrase: "It's not always what you know, but who you know." Few phrases have proven to be as true as this one.

Even before graduation, many Sigma Chi members have already been offered employment--by other Sigma Chis! When you take into consideration the number of businesses owned and operated by Sigma Chi brothers, the benefits of membership become obvious.

In the Fresno area alone, there are over 1,400 Sigma Chi alumni, many of whom own their own businesses. In addition, if you plan to pursue graduate work after college, these men are effective recommendations for graduate school. It helps to have an accomplished professional endorse your academic and professional abilities when submitting letters of recommendation.

When you decide to look for employment, you will find that our Alumnus Big Bro program will be of great assistance to you. During your pledge semester, you are paired with an Alumnus Big Bro in your area of study who helps you find internships and employment, and advises you as an undergraduate. This program has proven invaluable to many Sigma Chi graduates.
