PRESS RELEASE – EAST MALAYSIA REGIONAL MEETINGS, January 2016

PersatuanPengurusanKompleksMalaysia (PPK) (or the Malaysia Shopping Malls Association) recently held our outreach meetings in East Malaysia on 15 & 16 January 2016 in Kuching and Kota Kinabalu respectively. As our association operates out of the Central region (Klang valley), this is our regular outreach to physically keep in touch with members in the various regions of Malaysia ie Southern region (Johor and Malacca), Northern region (Perak, Kedah, Perlis & Penang) and East Coast region (Pahang, Kelantan & Terengganu). Time has flown by as the last meeting in East Malaysia was held in January 2014.

  • 15 January 2016 – Kuching

More than 10 personnel turn up for the Kuching meeting, with representatives from Crown Square Shopping Centre, Everrise, Sarafield, Sarawak Plaza Shopping Complex, The Spring, One Jaya and the newly opened Viva City.

  • 16 January 2016 – Kota Kinabalu

There was an enthusiastic turnout of more than 35 shopping mall industry personnel from the many vibrant malls in Kota Kinabalu and evenfrom Sandakan, thanks indeed to the efforts of our Sabah representative, Mr Tan King Way, General Manager of Suria Sabah Shopping Centre. The other participants in the meeting included representatives from both existing and new malls like Asia City, Centrepoint, City Mall, Grand Merdeka (under construction), Imago KK Times Square, ITCC Shopping Mall (under construction), Jesselton Mall (under construction), Oceanus, PacifiCity (under construction), Riverson Walk, Sejati Walk (under construction), and of course, Suria Sabah.

There was a great networking session as apparently, this was the first time for some of the attendees to have met their fellow industry practitioners and PPKM is pleased to have facilitated this. There was a good exchange and sharing of common industry issues and retail trends and the promise of future interaction as malls in Kuching and Kota Kinabalu seek retailers together for economies of scale.

Members were also brought up to date with our other activities which included study trips, certification courses, sports events, tehtarik talks, tourism events and shopping mall statistics etc.

PPKM’s attendees from the Main Committee were the following:

  • Mr Vincent Chong, Vice President 2
  • Mr Kenny Tan, Sports Committee
  • Ms Eunice Lim, Research Committee
  • Ms Jenny Chan, Special Projects
  • Mr Goh Chong Wooi, Technical Committee
