Formal lab report (Typed)
Title page: (5 pts)
A separate page which includes the title of the lab, your name, your period, your partner’s name, the teacher’s name, and your introduction. Be creative and make it presentable, you may include a picture.
Introduction (5 pts)
Briefly explain the objective / problem of the lab. Include a formal hypothesis statement (If… then). Briefly state if you had any problems with your data.
- Do not use personal pronouns in your introduction (I, we, you etc.)

Materials / Equipment list (4 points)
Procedure (4 points) - written in a clear step – by – step manner so that someone else could duplicate the investigation and your work.
- Use past tense directions
Data / Observations: (5 pts)
Use a Data table / graph when applicable
- Include all necessary units on measurements
- Include all observations
Analysis / Calculations: (5 points)
Analysis questions are fully answered with complete sentences when applicable
All work is shown and sample equations are present
** Conclusion: (5 points) – provide an interpretation of your results using evidence from your investigation.
THIS IS NOT A SECTION FOR STATING, “In conclusion, I liked this lab” or “In conclusion, I learned a lot”.
Instead you should:
- Re-state the objective / problem of the lab
- Draw a conclusion to the objective
- State your results and EXPLAIN your data. Use background information to back up your information.
- Restate your hypothesis and explain if it was proved/disproved
- Explain any errors or problems that may have occurred (If no errors occur, state “no errors occurred during the course of this experiment”)
