Potranco Branch Library Receives the Texas Library Association’s
2017 Wayne Williams Library Project of the Year Award

AUSTIN –The Potranco Branch Library of the San Antonio Public Library system received the 2017 Wayne Williams Library Project of the Year Award, a top statewide honor from the Texas Library Association (TLA). The award recognizes a project that exemplifies the highest levels of achievement, professional standards, and inspiration to other libraries

The Potranco Branch Library and the Mays Family YMCA at Potranco is a collaborative public/private partnership that serves as a destination for the growing Northwest San Antonio, and provides endless opportunities for learning and living well. Due to the unique nature of being co-located with the YMCA, joint efforts are made to ensure both facilities offer resources, materials, and programs that serve common goals like health (both mind and body), wellness, and learning.

As the 29th location in the San Antonio Library’s citywide footprint, this unique and innovative space offers access to a dynamic family of services and resources. The Potranco Branch Library is 5,000 square feet and features a large exterior courtyard, interactive maker space, study areas, full-service computer area with free Wi-Fi, an extended hours self-service lobby shared with the YMCA, and a children’s discovery area. In addition to a collection of popular materials, the library is also home to the San Antonio Library system’s only collection of vinyl records available for check out, and a self-service laptop checkout kiosk.

Thanks to this project, the community can explore all that the San Antonio Public Library and the YMCA have to offer families for learning and living well. Ramiro Salazar, director of the San Antonio Public Library accepted this prestigious recognition on April 20, during the TLA Annual Conference in San Antonio.
