Flag Duty Procedures

· Senior member of flag detail will call out commands. Individual is also responsible for carrying colors

· Junior member of flag detail will raise and lower the flag according to given commands by senior member

Morning Flag Duty Procedures

1. Senior member gives command to “FALL IN.”

a. During this time, the senior and junior member of the flag detail will line up side by side (senior on the right) at attention facing the flag pole

2. Next command given will be “FORWARD MARCH.”

a. At this time both member of the flag detail will step off together and walk towards the flag pole

3. Next command given will be “DETAIL HALT.”

a. As both members approach the flag pole, the senior member will position their body placement centered on the flag pole and will give command to halt which will place both members within one pace of the flag pole

4. Next command given will be “POST.”

a. At this time the junior member will take one step forward to the left side of the flag pole, followed by a right face (which should in turn center their body with the flag pole). The junior member will begin to unravel the lines from the flag pole. Following the senior member will pass the colors to the junior member. Junior member will clip the colors to the cleats and begin raising the flag. During the raising of the flag, the senior member will salute. Once the flag has been raised to the top of the pole, the junior member will ravel the remaining rope. Once completed, the junior member will also render a solute until the next command.

5. Next command given will be “READY TO.”

a. During this command, both the junior and senior member will cute their salutes and return to the position of attention

6. Next command given will be “POST.”

a. At this time the junior member will conduct a right face, take one step forward (feet together), and conduct an about face. This should put the junior member side by side the senior member and facing the flag

7. Next command given will be “ABOUT FACE.”

a. Both the junior and senior members will conduct movement, and both members will now be facing away from the flag pole

8. Next command given will be “FORWARD MARCH.”

a. Both junior and senior members will walk forward and proceed to original location in front of the steps.

9. Next command given will be “DETAIL HALT.”

a. Both junior and senior members will come to the halt position

10. Final command given will be “DISMISSED.”

a. Both junior and senior members are free to walk away accordingly.

Evening Flag Duty Procedures

1. Senior member gives command to “FALL IN.”

a. During this time, the senior and junior member of the flag detail will line up side by side (senior on the right) at attention facing the flag pole

2. Next command given will be “FORWARD MARCH.”

a. At this time both member of the flag detail will step off together and walk towards the flag pole

3. Next command given will be “DETAIL HALT.”

a. As both members approach the flag pole, the senior member will position their body placement centered on the flag pole and will give command to halt which will place both members within one pace of the flag pole

4. Next command given will be “POST.”

a. At this time the junior member will take one step forward to the left side of the flag pole, followed by a right face (which should in turn center their body with the flag pole).

5. Next command given will be “HAND SALUTE.”

a. At this time the junior and senior members will salute the colors.

6. Next command will be “READY TO.”

a. During this command, the junior member will cute their salute and begin lowering the flag. The senior member will not cut their salute, however; once the colors become within eyesight, the senior member will cut their salute and begin to grab the color ensuring they do not tough the ground.

7. Next command given will be “POST.”

a. At this time the junior member will conduct a right face, take one step forward (feet together), and conduct an about face. This should put the junior member side by side the senior member and facing the flag pole

8. Next command given will be “ABOUT FACE.”

a. Both the junior and senior members will conduct movement, and both members will now be facing away from the flag pole

9. Next command given will be “FORWARD MARCH.”

a. Both junior and senior members will walk forward and proceed to original location in front of the steps.

10. Next command given will be “DETAIL HALT.”

a. Both junior and senior members will come to the halt position

11. Final command given will be “DISMISSED.”

a. Both junior and senior members are free to walk away accordingly.
