SUBJECT: Childs Bog Dam (#109.13), Harrisville, NH – Drawdown

The Department of Environmental Services (DES), Water Division, Dam Bureau’s Engineering & Construction Section is planning a partial drawdown of the Childs Bog impoundment in order to complete repairs to the dam. There will be 4 feet of water left in the pond to assist with fish holdover. The repairs will include the reconstruction of the concrete abutments on the dam.
Drawdown of the pond will begin on Tuesday, September 5. The drawdown will last until the end of construction which is planned for the spring 2018. We met with members of your staff, Carol Hendersen and Jason Carrier, on May 31, 2017 to discuss the project and to agree on a drawdown scope and time frame.

Section 211:11
211:11 Notice. – No person by means of opening gates or dams, other than in the ordinary use of an established water privilege, shall draw down or lower the water in any stream, lake or pond in the state to a degree which will endanger fish life therein until notice in writing has been given to the executive director of such intention 2 weeks prior to such drawing down or lowering so that the department may take out the fish in the waters to be so drawn down or lowered.
