v Journal of Homeland Security and Emergency Management
Special Issue Call for Papers
Future of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Education:
Over the past 25 years, a significant body of knowledge and best practices for emergency management has emerged. The growth of programs and curriculum offerings for homeland security has followed a similar track. Demand for graduate programs, including those at the doctoral level, also has increased along with rising support from university leadership.
Little consensus exists, however, with respect to a definitive core curriculum, minimum program objectives, appropriate student learning outcomes, and effective assessment strategies. Faculty and administrators of emergency management and homeland security programs raise many questions without clear answers. For example,
1. Where should existing and future programs focus their efforts?
2. What core subjects should be taught, and why?
3. What is the relationship between homeland security and emergency management curriculum?
4. What it the optimal pedagogical approach needed to deliver high caliber professionals sought by government agencies and other practice settings?
5. What is the best way to characterize and determine the scope and direction of educational programs for emergency management and homeland security for the next 10 years?
The purpose of this Call for Papers is to produce a special issue of the Journal of Homeland Security and Emergency Management devoted to defining the pressing issues for homeland security and emergency management education and illuminate a path forward.
The due date is February 14, 2011. Manuscripts should be submitted through the regular submission link which is located on the journal website www.bepress.com/jhsem
