Anesthetic Protocol

All cats over 3lbs are anesthetized with TKX (induction/maintenance, although isoflurane may be used to assist with maintenance)

TKX= Telazol, Ketamine, Xylazine (100mg/ml)

To mix add 4 cc Ketamine to 1 unconstituted bottle of Telazol then add .8 cc Xylazine (80mg) = 4.8ml TKX

Dose: 0.07ml/3lbs Redose: 0.02ml/3lbs

0.1ml/4-5lbs 0.03ml/4-5lbs

0.12ml/5-6lbs 0.05ml 6lbs and over

0.15ml/6-9lbs

0.2ml/10lbs and over

Redose:

If the cat is waking up while waiting for surgery or during surgery, a redose of TKX can be given. Male cats that are being neutered and females that are close to the end of their procedure may be masked with Isoflurane instead of receiving a redose of TKX.

Buprenex (analgesia)

Dose: 0.05ml 2-3lbs

0.1ml 4-5lbs

0.15ml 6lbs and over

Kittens

2-3lbs (all kittens must weigh at least 2lbs)

Induction- Hub of acepromazine (0.01ml) + 0.1ml to 0.15ml ketamine

Maintenance- Female kittens are intubated and male kittens are masked with Isoflurane/O2.

Diazepam

Injectable valium is available to use as needed

Beuthanasia

Dose: 1cc/10lbs IV or IC
