Alternative Training Matrix for BHA/P Certification

Levels of Practice / BHA I / BHA II / BHA III / BH Practitioner /
BHA Program Oversight / The BHA/P may only practice in a program in which clinical oversight of the behavioral health program is provided and responsibility is taken by a licensed behavioral health clinician (LBHC).
Employment / Must be employed by Indian Health Services, a tribe, or tribal health organization who operating a community health aide program.
Alternative Training / In lieu of completing the BHA/P specialized training program a person may satisfy the training requirements for certification by successfully completing one of the alternative courses of study (below) determined by the Board to be equivalent to those required under BHA/P Specialized Training.
Alternative Courses of Study
With a degree in: Human Services, Addictions, Chemical Dependency, Behavioral Health, Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Marriage/Family Therapy, Nursing w/BH specialty, or related field.
Work Experience: Providing village-based behavioral health services under supervision of a licensed behavioral health clinician or masters level behavioral health professional
*Individual Courses. Applicants must complete each of the individual courses listed under the level at which they are applying. If the applicant has completed a similar course as a part of their training, they can submit that course information for review and approval at the discretion of the Board. / Complete One / q ACBHC approved Counselor Technician training with 1000 hours of work experience

q Providing rehabilitative services with appropriate case documentation (30);
q Providing community readiness evaluation & prevention plan development with appropriate case documentation (25).
