Quarter Four Portfolio Requirements

Unit #4 – AP BOOT CAMP!

Fourth Quarter: April 9 – May 23

Novel(s): Of Mice and Men, Hamlet, independent book

AP Exam = May 10, 2011 at 8AM

PORTFOLIO DUE DATE: May 17 or May 18

The Fourth Quarter indicates we’ve nearly reached our conclusion. Good teams always play their best in the fourth quarter. Accept the challenge and produce your best work to close out the year. Be the student we know you can be.

YOUR PORTFOLIO MUST:

· Have a personalized cover

· Have section dividers for all sections

· Be aesthetically pleasing

SECTION I: ESSAYS – 4 pieces

· Resume

· Of Mice and Men essay

· Independent Book AP style essay

· Guiding Principles Reflections for Exit Exhibit (6)

A formal essay is defined as a piece of writing which has a high level of quality and clarity. Length should be 750-1000 words. Formal essays must be typed and double-spaced. All essays should have the following header in the upper left hand corner: Student Name, Paper Title, Due Date, and Instructor’s Name.

SECTION II: AP EXAM MATERIALS

Please include all practice tests and essays we do from AP BOOT CAMP!

SECTION III: JOURNALS – 5 of 150 words each

Students should complete FIVE journals this quarter. Please remember the only acceptable format is handwritten in a journal or notebook. You will have access to many journal prompts, but feel free to develop your own topics.

SECTION IV: LITERATURE TERMS

Begin studying all thirty of your glossary terms in preparation for the AP Exam. We may have a literature term exam at some point.

SECTION V: LITERATURE PROJECTS

· Hamlet epitaphs

· Six Word Memoir

SECTION VI: LETTERS

· Keeper Letter

Students need to prepare to present their portfolio to their “keeper” roughly 2-3 days prior to the final due date. The keeper letter must be typed and passed in when the portfolio is due. You may choose the same keeper as quarter one or you may change. The choice is yours.

· “Dear Future Students” Letter

Students will write a formal letter addressed to future students of Ms. Tewksbury. The instructor will provide a list of questions during one of the final classes. Students should not worry about this piece until that point.

· Reflection Letter - “English Final”

Students will complete a reflection letter addressed to Ms. Tewksbury discussing their thoughts over the entire YEAR of English class. This will be completed from 9:15-10:15 AM during the “senior week” activities and must be typed and without grammatical or spelling mistakes. The instructor will provide a list of questions during one of the final classes. Students should not worry about this piece until that point. YOU MUST BRING YOUR PORTFOLIO to the final reflection.
