Endo Optiks was founded in 1991 by Dr. Martin Uram, a vitreoretinal specialist and Steven B. Kohn, a businessman with both a legal and financial background. Dr. Uram, upon realizing the need for a combined illumination, viewing and treatment endoscope set out to develop and manufacture the MicroProbe™ integrated endoscopic laser system. The MicroProbe model was later streamlined into the current compact version called the E2.

In 1994, Endo Optiks was presented with the Thomas Alva Edison Patent Award for its Laser Video Endoscope; combining illumination, video imaging and laser delivery in one .89mm diameter 20 gauge probe.

Endo Optiks is headquartered in Little Silver, New Jersey where manufacturing, engineering, development and final assembly and testing is performed.

Sales and marketing is accomplished in the United States by a direct sales force and International sales and marketing are overseen by Medtronic Xomed.
