Ancient Egypt Scrapbook Assignment

History is told in many ways. We have different kinds of evidence of past civilizations. Cavemen left a record of their lives by painting on cave walls. As people progressed, they left their memories by a variety of methods – writings, artifacts, pictures, stories, poetry and in scrapbooks.

What is a scrapbook?

A scrapbook is a collection of important events and memories of the lives of people - from the lives of kings and leaders to the ordinary man, woman or child. People save mementos such as pictures, letters, ticket stubs, cards, and postcards to preserve a memory. Sometimes students fill scrapbooks with items gathered on vacation, or with sport clippings from newspapers describing the games they played in,

As you complete the unit on Egypt, you will create a scrapbook that will trace the development of the Egyptian achievements, and assess their importance.

How do I create my scrapbook?

You will use a rough draft template to record your learning, and facts for each topic of Ancient Egypt. You then will create a scrapbook with materials we supply and you may bring in.

What do I put in my scrapbook?

Your scrapbook will demonstrate your knowledge of the legacy that the Egyptians have left the world. To accomplish this project you will include images – pictures, artifacts, maps, that illustrate the accomplishments of the Egyptians. You will write text to accompany the images that explain the accomplishment, and to assess the importance of that achievement. You will also be required to explain why you chose that particular image. Be sure to arrange your primary material logically.

Where do I obtain resources for the project?

To acquire the knowledge and expertise needed to complete this project on Egyptian accomplishments, you will use resource material from: (1) your text and (2) Handouts (3) Egyptian Websites given to you.

When do I start? When is the Project due?

The project is due on December 20th. You will work on the project in class beginning November 22nd through December 20th. On December 20th the class will present their scrapbooks for peer sharing in small groups.
