EESC 4v4 No Goalie Challenge

Tournament Rules

The following rules apply to all participants in the tournament. Any questions or complaints will be decided by the Tournament Committee!

Teams will be assigned to divisions based on age, gender and playing experience.

Each team consists of 4-8 players. There are four field players and no keeper. Players may only play on one team per division. Players may play up in age bracket, but cannot play in younger age brackets, unless approved by the Tournament Committee.

All players must be registered prior to game time. Once a team begins the first tournament game, the roster is set and players cannot be added nor teams changed.

Coaches are responsible for checking schedule changes after each game. Coaches and players are responsible for understanding the tournament rules prior to participation.

All players must wear shin guards. Teams must have matching shirts with numbers. No jewelry may be worn except medical alert bracelets. All casts must be appropriately wrapped and approved by the officials prior to play. Players must wear indoor shoes suitable for gym floors. This will be checked at game time.

The goal box is 12 feet long by 4 feet deep. There are no goalkeepers. No player may touch the ball inside the box. Players may pass through the box but may not touch the ball. If the offense touches the ball inside the box, the result is a goal kick for the defense and no goal for the offense. If the defense touches the ball inside the box, a goal is awarded.

A goal is scored anytime the ball crosses into the goal or if the defense touches the ball inside the goal box. No goals may be scored on kickoffs. Kickoffs may be played in any direction. The defensive team must be at least 10 feet away during the kickoff, and all other dead ball situations. If the dead ball kick occurs closer than 10 feet from the opposing goal box, the ball must be moved away so the 10 foot rule is in place.

A goal may be scored from either side of the court.

All kicks including sideline restarts and end line goal kicks are indirect. These kicks may be taken from any point on the line near where the ball went out, with the ball not moving forward more than 2 feet. If the ball is played after rolling more than 2 feet, loss of possession will occur. The loss of possession is not a foul.

There are no throw ins. The ball will be kicked in from the sideline.

Substitutions are “on the fly.” The substitution area is located in front of your bench. The players must enter and leave from this area. Players may cross the touchline within 3 feet of the bench area. Any interference with play will result in loss of possession or indirect free kick if advantage was lost.

All restarts must be made within 4 seconds of placing the ball down for the kick. Players stalling or walking after the all will lose possession at the referee’s discretion after one warning of slow play. The loss of possession is not a foul.

There are no offsides.

NO sliding is allowed by any player at any time, offense or defense!!!

Penalty kicks are direct and are taken from the opposing team’s 3 point arch. All players on both teams must be behind the mid line. Penalty kicks are awarded for excessively rough play (red card offense). If a goal is not scored on a penalty kick, the defense begins possession with a goal kick. Penalty kicks are also awarded for every foul after the 6th foul.

Red cards are also given for kicking the ball and hitting the ceiling or score clock for any reason. A red card in this situation results in the team playing down for a maximum one-minute power play (or until a goal is scored) for U15 and below and maximum two-minute power play (or until a goal is scored) for high school. After the power-play minutes, the team returns to full strength.

Games for U15 teams and below will be 18-minutes with a running clock. HS Division games consist of two 12-minute halves with a 2-minute half time. There are no time outs and the clock will run continuously unless stopped at the discretion of the referee.

The home team will start each game. Games may end in a tie unless a clear winner is necessary to determine championship. If overtime is warranted, it will be 3 minutes of sudden death play (first goal scored is the winner). If after 3 minutes of play and no score, PKs will begin with four players participating (players on court). If score is still tied after first round of PKs, the next round with be one for one until a winner is decided.

Division winners are determined by a point system unless specifically directed by the

Tournament Committee. All teams are guaranteed at least 3 games. In some cases a division may

have enough teams that there will be a championship game. In this case, teams in those divisions

will be given specific rules for championship games.

Points will be awarded as follows:

· Win = 6 points

· Tie = 1 point

· Loss = 0 points

· One point for each goal up to a max of 3 points

· Shutout = 1 point

If teams are tied, the following tiebreakers will apply:

· Winner of head to head

· Goals against

· Goal differential

· Goals for

· Least number of cards

The penalty kick shootout consists of the teams taking penalty kicks using the players who were

on the field at the end of the playoff, alternating shots until each player has kicked once. The

team with the most goals at the end of the round will be the winner. If they are still tied, the

teams will alternate shots using the same four players until one team scores and the other does

not.
