Healthy Choices Campaign brings fruits and vegetables to the table

(CITY), Ky., (July 6, 2015) – Wally Cat is popping up on roads around Kentucky to inspire children to “Soar like a superhero. Fuel up with fruits and veggies.” Wally is one of the two billboard designs showing up in 93 counties as part of a new campaign developed by the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service’s Nutrition Education Program.

The second message, which is aimed at moms of preschoolers, includes an image of a mother modeling healthy eating with her three-year-old son with the message, “They learn from watching you. Eat fruits and veggies and they will too.”

“The goal of the campaign is to inspire limited-resource families to select nutritious options – like fruits and vegetables – and show them how they can benefit from our statewide nutrition education program,” said Debra Cotterill, director of the Kentucky Nutrition Education Program. “KYNEP participants receive hands-on education and gain basic skills for raising healthy families on limited incomes in a struggling economy.”

Families in (COUNTY) can learn more about the health benefits of eating fruits and vegetables while receiving tips for making it a reality in their home. Residents can sign up for (ADD COUNTY SPECIFIC PROGRAM DETAILS).

The Healthy Choices Campaign also includes a social media component, with daily nutrition tips on the KYNEP’s Facebook page, http://www.facebook/kynep. Residents can receive free copies of recipe cards and learn more about nutrition resources and programs available by visiting their local Cooperative Extension Service at http://www2.ca.uky.edu/county/.
